Surely even at auction there must be some protection for the buyer if the car turns out to be a dud (unless it was sold as such?)

There wouidnt be any Warranty at that price Mate,
its abeit unfair realy as obviously they wouid of Made there commison / Fees,

but ithink anything under a few grand can blow up once its drove through and they wouidnt care,
they just do there usual Hpi check ,,

the Auction igo to as been selling the cheaper ones off during the Day,
ithink thats agood idea atleast you can have apropper look over what your buying even if it is a 500quid car,

heres the auction igo too sometimes,

I'm pretty sure you have a short time after completion of the sale to reject the vehicle if it's not as described or has hidden major faults. In Sam's case, unless the car was sold as a non runner or with a statement that said "cooling system fault", or even a sign saying "sold as seen", I think he would have been eligable for a refund.

Ive just Read the Small print off an auction Receipt ihave,

and your correct, you can take the car back, but its a time slot of a Measly 6 hours,

but each Auction as differnt rules to one another so that May differ in Bailes case,

Well worth asking them tho or Reading the small print on the Receipt

Oh yeah it's gonna be a very short time, I was thinking a few hours just to make sure that it runs and you can drive it home. I'm sure that it'll be too late for Sam now....

Auctions are iffy, 500quid = scrap :(
the first time iwent, iended up coming out with alemon,

after that ilearnt My lesson,
the secret is : is to watch the car dealers, if the car is no good they wont look at it
the bargains are the ones they swarm round so its just acase of outbiding them

The police wait round Auctions for people coming out with there Bargains.. so alot just buy them and pick them up the next day
theyve no chance of taking it back then once the engines blown up ..The Auctioneers know what the crack there is, hence the 6 hour rule

It used to be an hour after the last car was sold at BCA when I was a nipper.

Something happened to the Mundao or was this something you were hoping to make a fast buck on?

My mate in the car spares shop says you can get a replacement water pump with a metal impeller but if this one's chucking out white smoke it's probably a bit late for that :(

This one was lacking on one cylinder. You could feel it.

Head gasket was well goosed and there was no coolant in there at all!

I bought it so the other half could use for a few weeks until she sorted a car out for herself and then I was going to use it for the weekend.

Gotcha. Was this one of those auctions where the cars are locked until they go through the auction hall? You know these are places are good for getting rid of lemons...

My dad got some really nice motors from BCA, got a couple of dogs too - almost new P6 with the floor rotted through (how?) and a Simca 1100 that had driven over something (looked fine until it went over the pit...) Caveat emptor an all that guff. When I was about 20 I went with a mate to Chingford car auctions when they first opened - my god, I've never seen so much junk in all my life  The last car we got from auction was at Blackbush, 89 300 TE 4matic with every extra. I drove it home not telling my dad about the SRS light flashing on the dash, good call as it turns out as it was a dirty contact on the steering wheel. Neither of us noticed it had a different number plate at each end  He had that for about 10 years, chopping it in cheap when the transmission started making noises. That was a good call too, about a month later the transmission self-destructed and the car was scrapped.

Update. on the 406.

Well iwent and picked it up, They did a brillant job of sorting the little problems out,
Came with a full service, Full 12mths mot. 5 brand new tyres.

ihadnt changed My insurance over, as iwas waiting to see if theyd sort the defects first, if not iwouid of got My money Back,
they put Me on there Free 7 day drive away insurance. so that wasnt too bad so ithought,

Got 5 or Miles or so back almost Home with the car,
ithought id put some fuel in it Fuel light came on,

got to tescos petrol station ishouid of drove straight in and filled it up using My card but ididnt,
ithought id drive up too the store and use the cash point and then just pay for the fuel with cash, the pay at pump hardly works at times
so ididnt want to be messing with cards,

got towards the store and Bang. a Asian woman wearing full facial vail, (religion thing) not that im racist,
came straight over the Mini round about, lost control of the car, an old carina, 6 onboard
and Bang straight in the side of Me.

police arrived,
and imediatly sort of pointed the Finger at Me.

Why isnt you car taxed sir?
this vehicle isnt showing on our data base as being insured,

the car dealer came to the scene and backed me up as with Regards to have just buying it and to bring out a certificate of insurance
glad he did or id be looking at going to court no doubt (long ban and a big fine)

ive Been reported for the road tax.
spent hours in the A and e, My shoulder is mess and my right leg.

As for the Car its been recoverd and im waiting to hear back off the insurers idont know what will happen there and what will happen next.
im well and truely Miffed off, :(

No sure what will happen about the road tax .. ah well itl be a fine no doubt :(

Worst thing was Biting my tongue, trying to be careful what isaid. as anoyed as iwas ididnt want to speak to the driver,
iwont say much else on that subject, but you can guess as to why :(

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

I don't fricking believe it! And the police sound so sympathetic. Cnuts. Hats off to you sir for keeping calm, I'd almost certainly have been arrested for a breach of the peace.

What happened at a&e? I really hope you don't have any permanent damage.

And now I guess the car will be a write off, if the terrorist hit it hard enough to damage you.

Unfuckingbelievable :frown: :frown:

Jesus that's some bad luck

I think the tax thing will be alright - weird though as any car I've bought from a dealer they have taxed it themselves (remember having to get a cover note to a few of them the day before collecting the car).

Where's the 406 gone now?

Hope you recover from the injuries ok - you should think about an injury claim (the driver that hit you would, probably already has) and it's not as if you're 'putting on' a whiplash claim - you have been injured through no fault of you own.

Keep us updated, all the best,

Welly

the car will be a Write off ithink,

the Drivers window went thru,
Big crack in the windscreen, dont know why but the passenger side Airbags have fired, no one in the car other than me :?

door post as gone, by the looks of it, dont know until its been checked

had to climb over and get out the passenger side .

as for the A&e they wanted to keep me in overnight due to banging my head in the impact,
other than that its mainly bruises,

The copper was abit arrogant but ispose ive brought that on Myself, with the Road tax as they always come to conclusion no road tax results in a uninsured vehicle,

Typical isn't it - never mind about you smashing your head on the B pillar and struggling to get out the car, oh no, lets look at his Tax Disc first :x :x
