Installing OEM Sat Nav...Is It Possible?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Installing OEM Sat Nav...Is It Possible?

Post by ThePrisoner »

My 2000 D9 executive has not got Satalite Navagation fitted to it. How much effort would it be to fit an OEM Pug Sat Nav system from another 406 to mine?

Is all of the wiring in place, and it would just be a case of sourcing the neccesary components?

or would it be more adviseable to go out and buy a tom tom, as opposed to trying to upgrade the spec of my pug?

Regards,

Pris. :cheesy:

the cheap way to get tomtom is to buy a cheap crappy pda based satnav system off ebay complete with pda and gps reciever then buy the tomtom software off ebay and install it, i did this and it works perfectly and i saved myself a tidy sum 8)

Thirded, if there is such a word!

The Peugeot system is OK until you realise how much better tom tom is.

Agreed. The PDA route is a lot better too, as iPaqs slip nicely in your pocket whereas those all-in-one things are too big, so you end up leaving them in the car - and thieves know it! Plus PDA software can be upgraded and mine has a VGA screen 8)

That's the only benefit of the oem sat nav, there's nothing that can be pinched(except the remote control).

I use a Tom Tom One,it's excellent and fits in your pocket easily so no worries leaving it in the car :D

The Folly of installing Peugeot Sat Nav

Post by neilirwin7 »

Given that is has been unanimously agreed that installing the Peugeot Sat Nav system is a sheer act of folly - supposing someone was going to do this - and had already sourced many of the parts, will it actually work?

I am just asking for a friend - obviously not me doing it :|

if you got all the parts then yes it will, but you will need a list of parts longer than the car itself

Sat Nav Route Finder?

Post by neilirwin7 »

Can anyone help me locate where these parts of the Peugeot Sat Nav should be fitted (items ringed in red) to a 2001 Coupé.

First attempt at inserting an image - hope it works (if not, it is in the album as "Sat Nav".)

Sat Nav Mission Impossible

Post by neilirwin7 »

I have the disk driver - cdrom - cdrom driver - gps aerial - bracket - display unit - remote control -some of the loom is already there (if not all) and working on the rest. If it never happens I don't mind as I have picked parts up cheap enough so far. Just need to see what else is already there and what else I would need.

When I have all the SAT NAV parts I might just build a new 406 around them. Might be easier.

Thanks for reply

you will still need the BSi, and this will be dealer only, and it will be very hard for them to get the right one as you never had sat nav originally
