When I used to set up XP machines it always defaulted to US, I always change it to UK then delete the US options.
Think that's what i've done wrong, last week i got a new base unit but while installing xp i couldn't see the English uk option. Any idea if there's another way to change it? because going through control panel it asks to insert the xp disk and i ain't got one.

My XP knowledge is a bit rusty, is the language bar still active in the bottom right corner by the system tray? you can change it there. If it's not there I think you can right click on a blank spot nesr the system tray and re-open it using the toolbars tab (I think).
Other than that you can open it via control panel but like I said I'm a bit rusty and can't remember the exact path.

Language bar is still there but it won't let me un tick English us... I might just run it for a few weeks to make sure nothing brakes down then instal win7... Problem is i don't have a recovery disk only a restore point which i think is no good without the disk?
