Are faults logged if they've disappeared?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Are faults logged if they've disappeared?

Post by rwb »

Got "engine anti-polution system defective" and limp mode yesterday morning, and again this morning on my way to work. In both cases it seemed to happen when I moved my foot over to the brake quite quickly, so I suspect the throttle position sensor -- as usual

However, after re-starting the EML is off and the fault is gone. Fiddling with the TPS, I couldn't get the fault to come back.

Will there be any fault codes logged that can be read out? Or will all evidence of it have disappeared?

It should log faults, yes. Whether they'll make any sense or not is another matter...

Indeed, I always thought they should be called 'clues' rather than 'fault codes'.

Most common would be the TPS from what you describe I think.

So they are. Cost £10 to get them read, so definitely time to fork out for PP2000

Here they are:
P0483 Cooling Fan Rationality Check Malfunction.
Could this be related to this? How do you check whether the cooling fan is working correctly?

P0704 Clutch Switch Input Circuit Malfunction.
Following advice on here I pulled the clutch switch a few months ago. This means it's going straight back in.

P0181 Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance.
WTF?

P0226 Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch C Circuit Range/Performance Problem.
This is what I was expecting to see.

Well I have an answer on the cooling fan: it's bust.

Sat out in the street with the engine screaming at 3k rpm to get the temperature up. Sat at 90 for a while then went over -- and kept going! Fan didn't cut in.
At this point I chickened out and put the blower on full at 30 degrees to bring it back down. No warning messages came up though.

I can't see a fuse mentioned.
I'm reading this post but I'm not sure where to start...

Apparently Rationality Check means that it thinks the fan should be working, but the temperature hasn't gone down as much as it was expecting, therefore it things something's up.
