What's it worth? (can't drive any more)

Post by StevieboyTD »

Not been around for a few months, been dealing with some health problems, had a second round of surgery on my spine and the result has been "stick a fork in me, i'm done" :(

I'm dosed out of my skull on big ass painkillers for a long enough each day that i'm not allowed to drive and if i stay off the pills i can only manage an automatic.

Which means the car i spent 15 years looking for, i can't use. Gutted is not the word for it.

It's an S-reg 2.1 td exec estate with a Bosch fitted so it can run on pure veg oil (and it's a bit snappier to boot)

Currently out of MOT, the things i know of that will fail are the droplink (which i've already got) and the handbrake is crap. The AC condenser packed up, so i've got another one to fit, hence the AC if currently non-functional.

I've got a cambelt (with tensioners), a water pump and aux belt to be fitted.

The paintwork is quite gritty, so i think it needs mopping and/or claying to get the smeg out of the topcoat. Also the headlight washers don't have caps.

It's got intergalactic mileage (around 470k), the clocks and MOT ticket say lower, but they're lying. Front tyres are 205/65-15, rears are 205/70-15. These were fitted to lift the height of the car to let me get in easier (after my first surgery).
Towbar with twin electrics.
Just been serviced too.

Runs like a dream.

I'll get some pics later.

Any idea what she'll be worth with/without the MOT work being done?

Sorry to hear that mate.

Well,i dont live in UK but ill give it a try.
I was on some english pages which are selling pugs, they go from 900 to 2000,depending on which equipment and mileage.

I would definitly fix pug and pass on MOT,putting some second hand parts to look better, conversion to veggy oil is very good and that raises the price of the car.
Dont know whats the situation with gas prices there, but here a car with that conversion worths much because prices of petrol are going sky rocket.
With some cheap cosmetic projects, the car will get shiny look, and that with fresh MOT,new cambelt, handbrake, it should sell fast.

At the end what can i say mate,if you can, dont sell it because you put a lot of you in that car,i hope you get better.

I would love to keep it and drive it later but the damage to my spine isn't going to change so i'm stuck with tall automatics (currently driving a petrol mercedes a-class :( )

Hunted high and low for this car, it's the "sweet spot£ of the spec range, best engine, best trim, best body. You can always get 2 out of the 3 options, but i've only seen 2 cars in all the time i was looking that have all 3, and i've got one of them!

And now i can't drive it!

Sorry to hear of your situation. How about converting the pug to an auto?

Sorry to hear about your troubles Steve, I have a rough idea how you feel mate, for a couple of weeks last year I couldn't even get in my 406 and for a month after that I couldn't sit in it for more than a couple of minutes (the 5 minute drive to the shops was torture). I know I'm not like that permanently but it does mean sitting in the 406 doesn't do me any good and that's one of the reasons I'm driving a tall car myself :( I refuse to sell it though, I wouldn't get much for it and after all the work I've done on it I'd rather give it away to a friend or crush it

I can't tell you how much it's worth (have a squint on autotrader etc.) but I reckon what you're asking is if it's worth selling the car as is or fixing it first. Obviously, if you can fix it yourself, you'll be quids in but it doesn't sound like you're in a fit state to do that, so it might actually be better for you to sell it as it is :(

sorry to hear about your troubles, dont understand about the tyres as it seams you have gone wider not taller still
i would say with that miles no mot and the faults about £200-300
with mot about 4-5 hundred so not really worth doing if you selling.

Oops, I think we lost something in the translation there - custom made seats? Springs perhaps?

I was always interested in raising my 406 but everyone else seems to be intent on lowering it so the exhaust scrapes along the ground  Peugeot did make a suspension set up for "rough terrain" but I'm not sure if the springs are any longer. The D8 also featured a sump guard...

Or you could mean seats of course, that's my other issue with the 406...

Custom made spring seats I reckon, or spacers to the layman.

yes,i was thinking of custom made seats and stuff for making the car a little bit higher, just to get inside easier.
I know when i drive older people always complain how low that damn car is.

Maybe other type of springs, different type of tyres and similar things to make car higher

I need something with the comfort of the 406, the ease of an auto box, the poke of the 2.1, the cheap fuel of the bosch pump and the ride height of a vitara, is that too much to ask!
