Drop links

Post by Captain Jack »

Due to clanging noises when going over pot-holes, I think my drop links are shot. Probably front and back but I want to tackle the front ones first.

Are they easy to change? Never done them before. Also, there seems to be a number of these around.... Would these be OK. But then there's these at double the price... why?

Actually, the guide is here - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17207 - thanks FarmerPug!

Would still like an opinion on the best ones to buy? Is more expensive necessarily better?

I've had eBay specials before and they last roughly 12 months, one friend of mine will only fit Lemforder now, but at £25 PER link there is a slight price difference!

Thanks everyone. Rob, I've ordered your Continental ones - let's hope they last.

The ones I have now are originals from when I bought the car in Feb 2009/80,000 miles since then. Not bad! Could probably do with changing the rear ones too. Is the principle the same?

80,000 is good going i'd say, i bought 2 ebay specials just before crimbo but it was about March before i tackled the job and then i only done the n/s/f.. easy enough job if you follow farmerpug's guide and if you copperslip the new ones it'll make it easier the next time.

The £10 jobbies are Conti-Techs as Rob said. Replaced them in an hour. A bit awkward there and took some brute force to undo one of the bolts (snapped an allen key in the process!). The original ones weren't in that bad a condition but the driver's one had some play in it.

I need to replace my rear ones as well as they've probably had it. Is the process pretty much the same as for the fronts?

There are cheaper. Also, it doesn't seem to come with the nuts (which you'll need) and, umm, do both pins point the same way? :?
