Wynn's EGR3 on 110 HDi...and now it's got a fault...SORTED!

Post by drjonts »

Hi folks,

Thought I'd give the magic Wynn's EGR3 a go on my 53 plate 100 HDi this afternoon. Wish I hadn't as it won't rev over 3000rpm and is showing the engine management light constantly and stating that the engine antipollution system defective. Hoping it's just a momentary glitch while the stuff goes through the system but has anyone else had this happen?

UPDATE: light and message still there but car seems to run ok!

Will I need to get this cleared from memory now? In the meantime, I've taken the battery off and will wake it up slowly in a while and re-start it...fingers crossed!

Any advice gratefully welcomed.

Jonty

How did you put the Wynns 3 in your engine?

Through the intake pipes after taking the air filter cover off. 1-2 second squirts, wait and engine speeds slightly (and quite 'pinky' in my case as it did!!!) and repeat. Also did the same after popping the large intercooler pipe off but it's all on the intake side.

Thought that was how it was meant to be done - was I wrong?

Wondering if the EGR went funny for a bit, caused a fault which is still in memory. Does running for a while without error clear the memory or is it a re-set with PP200 or Lexia?

Cheers,

Jonty

Yeah, 3 second bursts until all the tin is used.

Sometimes the light goes out after you run it a few "cycles" eg, 10 start ups.

Oooh - there's hope yet then! Seems to be running OK - I'll keep on going with it. Thanks for the advice.

UPDATE...

...AND THE LIGHT IS OUT!!!! :D It went out the next time it started up - so I finished the can off and it seems to be ok.

Cheers for the encouragement to keep persevering.

Why bother cleaning the EGR when you can just disable it? (It took me 7 years to work this out  )

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Is that done by using one of these blanking plates that some people manufacture?

Pull the vacuum pipes off the solenoid and bung them. (You'll have either two or three (probably two) solenoids on the bulkhead, and it's easy to trace the vac pipe from the EGR valve to the correct solenoid.) No faults showing yet...
