2.0 HDI starting problem

Post by stigslim »

Hi peoples, noob here. All was well, car running fine all day. Jumped in tea time to use it and it spins over and fires then dies. Thinking i had let go of the key too quickly i tried again upon which it just whizzed over without any effort to fire. After leaving it for an hour or so i tried it again, same thing again ( fires then dies) followed by just spinning over. Drained the fuel filter (no signs of dirt or water) got about half a pint of diesel out of it. To cut a long story short the fuel filter housing doesnt appear to be filling up, i left the filter out and the top off and it doesnt fill when i turn the engine over ( it should right?). I can only come to the conclusion that the fuel pump has packed up, there is no whirring sound when the ignition is switched on which i am sure there should be. Looking for any ideas on what to try next. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Well there is nothing at all coming from the low pressure pump in the tank as i took the flow pipe off and nothing, no priming or pumping. So either the pumps gone or its an electrical fault. Just after some pointers as to what it could be. The only ones i can come up with are, immobiliser, stop solenoid, pump relay. What or how would you test them?. Thanks again for any help.

Access to tank pump is under rear passenger seat , pull the electrical plug off the
top clean and try again , if no whirring sound gently tap the tank it will either
kick in or not either way sounds like it is fooked or soon will be .

There is definitely no sound coming from it at all. So I whipped that sucker out (right where you said) and going to get it tested before I stump up the cash for another. Thanks for tour input I will be back to fill you in in the outcome.
