Accident: Reversed into in car park

Post by jonsowman »

So two days I was in a multi storey carpark and a woman in a Land Rover Disco 3 reversed without looking and hit my n/s corner. She accepted liability, but the repair quote from the bodyshop was £1400, writing the car off. They valued the car at £600, but I argued that due to condition and lots of work done recently it was more than that, and they eventually agreed on £750 with a buy-back cost of 7%.

My options were £700 and Cat-C the car, or a cash-in-lieu payment of £600 without writing off the car, which avoids that being put on its record and I don't have to have an MOT and VIC done after the repairs. So I opted for that. I pulled the car to pieces this evening, and discovered a needs a new bonnet (obvious) but also a new grille and n/s headlamp.

Going to the scrapyard tomorrow to pick up a bonnet (£25), and I've got a headlamp to pick up as well (£6). I will try and get the grille from the scrap car.

The damage, taken at the scene of the accident:

Here's how she's looking at the moment:

Unbelievable amounts of hassle that I could do without, but I'm really glad I didn't have to scrap her!

wow, thats just a minor damage,no talking about scrapping it,and its 406,the most beautifull peugeot :cheesy:

front bumper suffered no damage, that is luck, cuz its real pain to change that with all those screws hidden around, specially those in wheel arch.

No, unfortunately not - that would have been amazing. This seems to be a really hard colour to find (P0JZ), most of them are M0KQ (which looks the same to my eyes but would look wrong on the car).

Got a bonnet and grille from a silver car. Got a quote from a local bodyshop to have them sprayed :)

Hit it with matte black spray paint. Instant boy-racer cred.

Got the bonnet and grille back from the bodyshop today, and now she's all back to normal! Very pleased :)

The rest of the car needs a wash and polish, hence the slight colour mismatch. I'm not really bothered though.

Good fit & finish but the colour match really is miles out - is it as obvious in real life?

Other than that, nicely saved sir! :cheesy:

I've not seen it in person yet but I'm reliably informed that it's not nearly as obvious in real life :)
