I love my e39 530i sport,i was looking at M5's before i bought the 530i but the repair bills if they (and they do) go wrong made it a non starter for me,i've driven one and they are insane for a 4 seater saloon.I hardly ever use the 530i but for what it is worth i can't bear to part with it and it has got to be one of the best driving cars i have owned.

Ok board, what have you gone with grasmere's post? I can see it on the new posts, I can see it from his profile, I can see it below this as I write, but it just doesn't appear at the bottom of this thread.

Maybe it will when I post this :?

Edit: nope. I'll just have to put it here meself

Edit edit: quote, moderate, change poster, edit, delete quote tags, post, see his post came up finally... About time we got a new board I reckon.

BUY A HOLDEN MONARO!

Surprisingly, the V8 is pretty economical on the motorway as it just ticks over at 1500rpm in sixth. They have stupidly long gearing!

Do NOT buy an RX8, a family friend had a genuine dealer one at 4-years old with 30K miles and it was a heap  oil consumption, fuel consumption  , odd noises from the rear diff, really sh*t breaks needing constant attention, oil leaks, needs working hard to perform and difficult access in and out.

Best sort of car buyers guide I find; have a friend buy something and run it....pay for all the repairs....and tell you what happened and why. Best of all it's free advice  :supafrisk:

M - have you thought about a Lexarse? IS200 kinda thing?

What about a Mazda CX7? 250bhp turbo, 4wd, family friendly, cheap, rare, reliable and *loads* of toys.

According to Honest John it was a mistake and UK cars *should* have ended up with shorter gears.

Exactly my thinking, but I'm still very very tempted... If there's ever a chance I'll get to own a supercar, this is probably it. Later models don't (and probably won't in the future either) have manual gearboxes, and a 10 year old model's about as old as I'd want to go with something so expensive (to buy and run)

I do have a couple of browser tabs open with 2001 530i sport's in the £2.5k range... Very tempting

They're designed to use oil, so that's not bad, but everything else... yeah :/

Tiny cars to be inside, can't get a V6 with manual box

Kind of puts a Monaro out of your budget. Hmm, 2001, 11 years old and probably been thrashed within an inch of their lives...

You should do some research, stuff like servicing costs (don't forget the oil! ), new clutch, brake pads and disks, look on forums for what's likely to go wrong and how much it'll cost to fix, insurance quotes, tax. Look at Honest John too but bare in mind what a pile of crap he makes 406s sound...

Servicing costs is actually something I hear about (endlessly) from Goran, lost of people here feel their lives aren't complete if they don't own a merc or a bimmer, then they come to him for servicing parts and have a tantrum...

I love that model, 'twas high on my list pre-volvo purchasing but I liked the ideal of having a Petrol Turbo at the time.

Loan application was rejected, so I'm down to whatever I can buy on a credit card (hint: not much) and only from dealers that take plastic. Arse.

Got my eyes on this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290767903180

It's nearby and doesn't look bad... but it's not an estate :/

There's also this one: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 483636781/ which is an estate, but it's got a lot of miles on it, and it's a long way away

Rejected? you rent a house rather than own one?

Bastards, I used to get the knock back even on Credit Card applications but the more credit I've had and paid off in recent times they're begging me to take out more and more now - where were they when I needed them? I've got 3 Credit Cards now and can 'have' at least £13,000.00 between them if I wanted

What about something like this:

What about a Toyota Aristo (Lexus GS with Supra turbo motor)? I don't think they did a manual but within budget and I've always wanted one myself!

Way to easy mate, earlier this year we had 4 and between them was at least £20.000 possible credit it's easy to say f*ck it bung it on the card but the problem is re-paying the thing... If this is MJB's only option and he can wait a couple of weeks he's better off applying for a card with 0% over so many months i saw a tesco one online that was 0% for 22 months but the problem now is with him being turned down for a loan that will go against his credit score so could get turned down again.

As if I have £50,000 knocking around to get a deposit for a house...
Fixed that for you

Apparently, first-time buyers must now be able to put down a deposit of 20% of the value of their house, and it will take the average couple 14 years to save up that much.

I'm also in the same boat - renting a first-floor flat, with not much chance of getting the megabucks required to actually buy a property bigger than a shoebox. Property market stinks, and I will blame three things for that:

1) Buy to renters
People who are well-off enough to buy a second property for the purposes of turning it into flats to let out. This reduces the number of affordable properties, firstly by these buggers buying the cheap ones, and secondly by real estate agents putting up the prices of that type of property so they can make more money from this type of buyer.

2) Buy to renovators
People who are well-off enough to buy a second property for the purposes of doing it up and selling it on for even more money. This reduces the number of affordable properties, because these guys snap them up, do them up, and put them back on the market for as much as triple the starting price. Neighbours of these properties like it because it increases the overall value of properties in their street (including theirs) so these guys get welcomed with open arms.

3) Banks
Cos they're c u n t s.
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.
