What I mean is, the 4 dial D8 diesel dashes go up to 120mph, the 5 dial ones to go 140mph. So if I swap to a 5 dial, will it show the wrong speed?

If they use the same transducer I can't see why it'd be wrong :?

Wouldn't they have different scaling? (I'm guessing they'll all need the same instrument voltage for FSD, but the numbers are different). :?

Everyone I know (including me) has had to adjust the speedo needle when they have changed from a 130mph dash to 150mph.

It's easy. just plug in the dials without their fascia. Removed the speedo needle. Drive at 30mph (sat nav, memorise the revs in a certain gear etc) and just pop the needle back on in the right place.

So if sat navs are spot on then my clocks are out by 4mph?

All speedos tend to overread.
What I done to my 406 is find out what it does in 1st gear on the rev limiter :supafrisk:
Then sit it on the rev limiter in 1st and stick the dial on the right speed
