Which Code Reader

Post by trufflehunt »

Hi

A few weeks ago my local repairer charged me £43 to read and reset
an error code.

Since then I've had fuel pump problems. Seems to me that reading error codes is quite profitable.

The code readers I've seen on ebay all seem to say suitable for 2001 cars onwards. Mine is a 2000 HDI.

So what is the garage using?

The only things gauranteed to work on a pre-2004, (non EOBD compliant) Pug diesel are a PP2000/clone or some of the top-end professional stuff that costs a lot more.
Some other readers might work, (i.e. read / reset the fault codes), but won't give you anything like the details planet will, or allow you to monitor live data in the same way.

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I have an ELM 327 bluetooth that definitely doesn't work on my 2002 HDi 90.

As Doggy says, there's no point bothering with anything other than Planet.

Besides here, PeugeotForums has a map of Peugeot Planet owners who might be able to help you. The Coupe Club is also a good place to find Planet owners.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Could be handy to have a thread to collate a list of members with diagnostics.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

I agree, that's a good idea - now there's a few more of us, it's getting difficult to remember where everyone lives

Me too - it's the lack of a 'there' to put us in that seems to be the issue......

I have the ELM327 which cost about a tenner of E-Bay. This works fine with the 'Torque PRO' app I have on my Android phone. My car is a 406 2003 2.2HDi Exec.

NB: The 'paid for' Torque app is a lot better than the free one as it gives more details on the fault codes. It also has better gauges etc.
