It's a long way away, but you're unlikely to find a better cared for 406 than this one:

Unfortunately, apart from the enthusiastic owners here, most 406's seem to be getting a bit tatty but you have to think that even the very 'newest' 406 is nearly 9 years old now.

Probably a case of widening your search?

Not seen much this week, until this morning - this was on the road next to where I work. Guy has just put it up for sale, excuse the pics, I grabbed a couple of shots on my phone:

Details are a bit sketchy at the moment, other than its a 2L diesel automatic, 90,000 miles, tested until August 13, taxed until March 13.

Can anyone shed any more light on it, seeing as how it seems to be de-badged? Are automatics OK on these? TIA.

That would be a HDI 110 GLX auto, not sure about the reliability of the auto box but according to autotrader it's in the low 30's mpg wise around town and over £200 road tax.
If you can find a manual version it would be cheaper to run but I suppose it all depends on the selling price and condition to see if it's worth it.

Yes, it was a staggering amount in road tax!

The car was nice, full electrics inside, but had no service history, bit of noise from the alternator belt tensioner pulley (or the alternator) and the ABS was grinding away at slow speeds when coming to a stop (I'm familliar with the sensor gap issue on a 307, is this the same?). Combined with the auto box it felt like it wasn't going to stop at a roundabout!
