I have the D8 Executive, 1.9 Diesel.
The engine is running on, occasionaly, after I remove the ignition key. It can run on for several minutes before it dies.
I recently removed the anti. theft circuit but I think that is just coincedental.
My first thought is the small contacts behing the ignition switch barrel (if these are fitted to the 406.). I had a similar problem on an old car before.
Has anyone had this problem? And how did you fix it?
I will probaly work on it this coming Saturday, so any advice would be welcome.

My first thought would have been the stop solanoid on the injection pump, but it might be the switch block.

Agree with jaspers post had the same thing before on a few diesels ,check the stop solenoid or its wiring it cant be shutting off the fuel supply. How did you by pass the immobiliser did you replace the solenoid for a direct feed type or some other way ?.

My old 405 petrol used to do that, but I think thats because it had a leaking hose and was loosing water, when the temp gauge got into the red and I turned off the ignition it would keep running.

Thanks for the quick reponses.
Mattyp: The anti- theft on this car seems to be a small printed circuit board mounted in a plastic box on the solenoid. The wiring harness to the board has two live 12v ( one from the glow plugs, one from the anticollison switch), one 3.5v which I think is from the management system/ pin code and an earth. I cut out the board and used one of the 12v feeds direct to the solenoid. It has worked great for 6 weeks.
jasper5; Doesn't the solenoid "fail" closed? If there was a problem with the supply, I thought the solenoid would slam shut, stopping the engine.
I am now having a lot of trouble starting in the morning. During the day, restarting is not a problem. I have checked the supply to the glow plugs and it is ok, cycles just as Haynes says it should. I will take the glow plugs out on Saturday and check them. They are not that old but it needs to be checked.

Every time I've had a faulty stop solanoid they have always been open, sometimes I've had to stall the engine to stop them.
You don't have to remove the glow plugs to test them.....take off the wires from the plugs and use a test lamp or multimeter, connect to the battery live and to each plug in turn at the wire terminal, if the voltage is there or the lamp lights then the plug is working.....check your test lamp/multimeter by connecting to the plug earth, ie bottom of the plug.
