do you think i ould be better off geting another ECU. and what about reprogramming it, main dealer i suppose ?. there is a small relay sort of thing next to the ECU a brown thing. could that be anything to do with it

i wouldnt bother with a 2nd hand ecu, as they are more often then not locked by the transponder immobiliser rendering them useless
it could be a double relay fault, im on the hunt for a wiring diagram, when i find one i will get back to you
