Compaq evo N1005v

Post by Doggy »

Doggy's ancient laptop died earlier this week.

So, with customary extravagance, I snapped up the above on fleabay for a whopping £27 & was able to collect it in person this evening, courtesy of a 25-mile detour on the way home.

My question - is it likely to be any good? Seems the battery's knackered, but otherwise seems to work.

Looks like Galletto, PP2000 & Ecusafe have all installed and seem to work, though I have yet to try connecting to a car.

Was I robbed? :?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

£27 for any working computer is a good deal

This one is also suitably ancient - you can tell because it still has a built-in floppy disk drive...

Here's HP Compaq's QuickSpecs page on the machine:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 8_div.html

If the sole reason you've bought it is as a diagnostics machine for working on cars, then that's all very well and good. I wouldn't try and play Crysis on it though.

Not surprised the battery is f*cked, it's at least 10 years old and has either spent its entire life plugged into the mains, or in the laptop bag of some road warrior (read: photocopier salesman). A brand new one can be purchased from here:
http://www.hplaptopbattery.co.uk/compaq ... -29995.htm

... although it costs more than the laptop did.
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(

Thanks, Graeme. It is purely for car diagnostics, a task the previous Dell Inspiron 1000 with XP Home Ed, seemed perfectly capable of.

(I read the specs, but TBH couldn't make much sense of them).
