Shell V power diesel - is it worth it?
I dont do many miles in my hdi 110 and dont push the engine hard whereas diesels are supposed to be pushed hard
to throw out the soot. Anyway I've read that V power diesel helps to keep everything clean so i've just filled up
with it at a cost of £98 (and thats with Waitrose 5p a litre off!). It had better be good for that money. Has anyone
tried v-power and has it made a difference for them? (I've always bought supermarket in the past.)

Add a bottle of Forte Advanced Formula Diesel Treatment to a 1/4 tank of diesel annually two weeks before the MOT and do an " Italian tune up "
My MOT tester has failed cars on emissions and then added this and they pass !!

Mate I would say that was a waste of money I never use supermarket fuel only bp or shell and ur better off putting 200ml of 2stroke to a full tank that's better

I didn't measure any difference to MPG when I used Total's premium diesel.
On the other hand I hardly ever use supermarket fuel. When I have had supermarket fuel I've found it noisy.
My additive of choice is Wynns Diesel Injector Cleaner, accompanied by an Italian tune up and a long run.

It's a good (sympathetic) thrashing, or running the engine to high revs/full acceleration.panadero wrote:what is an "italian tune-up" per favore?

As Welly posted.panadero wrote:what is an "italian tune-up" per favore?
More precisely, you warm up the car completely and then go on the motorway at about 80% of your cars maximum rpm for 10-15 minutes. Usually 3rd gear at the motorway speed limit fits most cars.
The effect of this is that you get your engine nice and hot, burning off any moisture and other contaminants in the oil as well as soot in the combustion chambers. This also creates ideal working conditions for the catalyst, and particulate filter on a diesel if so equipped.
It shouldn't really be necessary anymore with modern fuels and electronic fuel injection, but it's fun, so no harm done. Remember that all diesels equipped with EGR valves need to be taken above 2500-2800 rpm at least monthly, to massage the mechanism and prevent it from seizing up.
Shell V-power diesel and similar fuels make no difference. Sooting up is a byproduct of compression ignition, no fuel can help with that.

many thanks for that. how do i work out if my 2.0 hdi 110 has EGR valves though?

All the HDI engines have EGR valves (unless removed by a previous owner).panadero wrote:many thanks for that. how do i work out if my 2.0 hdi 110 has EGR valves though?
