2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
Hello and thank you for taking the time to help me.
I have a 2000 406 hdi, 2.0 110 and I have fitted a new lift pump and I am still waiting for the new complete fuel filter to arrive.
My question is this: When looking at the engine, on the bottom of the fuel filter there are pipes for two connections. My 406 has two pipes, one with a green semi circular button for disconnecting it and another with two white buttons for disconnecting it. On what side do each of these pipes go?
And am I right in thinking the system is self bleeding?
Thanks for having a read and I look forward to hearing back from you all.
Cheers,
Jean

The pipes at the bottom?
You mean pipes at the top of the filter where the big plastic nut is, surely?
It's pretty obvious where they fit, you shouldn't get them wrong, in fact I'm sure they are different sizes.
Yes, they are self bleed, just turn the ignition on and leave it for a few seconds.....some people switch the ignition on and off, but I've never needed to do that.

Not sure without going out to the car in the dark, but as for priming.
I turned the ignition on until it stopped priming, and re did that about a dozen times, and it fired up first time

Re: 2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
Thanks for the reply but Ido mean the two pipes that connect from the engine to the bottom of the filter housing, not as you say the top pipes.
On my 406 there are two pipes that conect on the top, two on the bottom and one feed pipe on the side bottom.
Cheers

I think a picture of this would be good, as it sounds unusual to me.jp2012 wrote:Thanks for the reply but Ido mean the two pipes that connect from the engine to the bottom of the filter housing, not as you say the top pipes.

Never seen one like that before, but if you haven't disconnected any pipes just mark them or label them or take a photo.
Re: 2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
Unfortunatley the pipes are already off the housing Jasper.

Re: 2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
Personally, I would try connecting the white one to the right and the green one to the underneath pipe, unless the length/angle of the pipe is more obvious, but if the top pipes are green one to the right i would try that first., but of course that would be purely guesswork on my part.jp2012 wrote:Unfortunatley the pipes are already off the housing Jasper.

It should really be fairly obvious with the angle/position of the pipes.
Re: 2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
Looking at it the two pipes could go on either connection Jasper. I know what you mean but its not so clear.jp2012 wrote:It should really be fairly obvious with the angle/position of the pipes.
I would have thought one or two 406 owners would have changed a Bosch filter before.
Cheers.
Re: 2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
I've only ever changed the cartridge on that type before and have never seen the 4 pipes, only the top 2.
Re: 2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
dont know if that helps or not?

Re: 2000 110 hdi fuel filter change.
Thanks Lozz but that is a different filter than the one on my 406.
Doggy, thats a good diagram but I am still lost as to what connection goes where. On the diagram it looks like the pipe simply links to the other connection but it goes into a section of the engine.
Can anyone who owns a a 406 110 HDI with the Bosch fuel system have a look on the underside of their fuel filter for me please?
Cheers

Mine is Bosch and is the same as that, going off doggy's diagram pipe 4 clips to both the bottom ones in a U shape around the bottom of the filter so might look like 2 pipes (it's got white connectors on mine)
Then pipe 3 (also white clips) clips to the side of the filter, goes around the back then up to what i think is the fuel reheater (no7) this is located slightly above the filter housing to the left.
Like this.

While out there in the freezing cold
i thought i might aswell take a pic of the top just in case you need it.

And the best pic of the bottom i could get.

Not sure if you can see it but there's also a rubber breather coming down off the screw on bit?
Not sure if this helps but if you need more pics i can try.
