PP2000 question - Peugeot 406 HDi 2.0, '99

Post by sotirisp »

Hi guys,

I tried to answer myself this question by reading the posts here but it seems that my question is very dependent to the specific Peugeot model someone owns... So here it goes:

I own a Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi, model 1999 (i think it's an ST , trim level i mean... )
ServiceBox gives me this description for my car when I enter its VIN number:
"406 RESTYL 4 DOOR SALOON 2.0 HDi 110 (DW10ATED) Manual gearbox 5".

I have no clue if it supports EOBD or EOBD2 or whatever (actually i am quite confused with those names because i also read the term OBD somewhere...I think that last one is for U.S. ? anyway...).

Also in ServiceBox, in the sub-section "Fuel Supply - Engine" of the section "Characteristics" I read this:
"EOBD SELF-DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM: WITHOUT "EOBD" AUTO-DIAGNOSTIC."

(I don't know if this is relevant to my question...anyway)

I'd like to buy one of those PP2000 diagnostic tools but I'd like to be sure that it's gonna work with my car before spending
any money...

I took some photos of the diagnostic port of my car, it's a 16 pin port i think (please see below):

The diagnostic tool that i found (i guess i should not post the ebay link so i will just copy the description of the tool and a pic) and i think to buy is this one:

Dealer diagnostic scanner for comprehensive Citroen and Peugeot cars diagnostic. You can do all as a authorized dealer does. This diagnostics software allows you to perform complete diagnostics of all from 1995 untill present models. Diagnostics is performed via OBD-II connector (which is located near steering wheel) or via manufacturer-specific connector (only older cars, pre-2001).

Supported functions:
Unlike other universal car scanner tools which only read fault codes, this software performs nearly ALL the functions like the original dealer diagnostic tool. Our diagnostic interface contains K-Line multiplexor, CAN-BUS interfaces and SAE J1850 bus (both PWM and VPW).

The following diagnostic functions are supported:
1.Read identification
Displays complete identification of control unit, e.g. part number, software/hardware version, manufacturer, etc...

2.Read fault codes
Displays all stored and pending fault codes with complete description (e.g. "Rail pressure - too low pressure").
Program supports report printing or copy to clipboard.

3.Clear fault codes
This function clears all stored fault codes and other diagnostic information.

4.Auto-scan (complete car scan/test)
Detects all ECUs (electronic control units) installed in car and reads all diagnostic fault codes.

5.Measured Values
Program displays live Data like Engine Speed, Battery voltage, Oxygen Sensor, Coolant Temperature, etc. Values can be displayed in graph, 9 values at once, or full listing (all measured values). Logging to file is also supported, which allows offline analysis.

6.Actuator test
Actuator test activates particular actuator (e.g. turn on fuel pump, lock/unlock wheel, lock/unlock doors, cut off fuel, etc..)

Hardware and software requirements:
Software requires at least Intel Celeron/Pentium III 400 MHz, 128 MB RAM, 50MB free HDD space and USB 1.1 port (USB 2.0 recommended) and Microsoft Windows 98 SR2/2000/XP with the latest service pack installed.
If customer requires, we can prepare ready to work PC.

Package includes:

1pc x Long 9pin to USB cable
1pc x Short 9pin to USB cable

1pc×30pin cable
1pcs diagbox 5.29
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the question:

Will this work with my car?

If you please can advise me...

If you have a laptop to run PP2000 on then yes, otherwise no.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Hi V6Exec,

thanks for your reply.
Yes I have a laptop to run the software...

One more question please...
To my understanding, that diagnostic set is a often called here as a clone (?), a Chinese one?
Is it good enough to be accurate and to work ok?

The goal I am trying to achieve is not only read fault codes but also enabling some
functions in my car like the trip computer and so on.... (functions that can be enabled i mean...)

Will that one do the job?

The clone interfaces run the real software and so give the same access as a dealer has.

Options you can turn on will depend on the hardware in the car. For example my 1999 V6 (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18835) had exactly one option that was not enabled in the setup, this was the remote window closure option. Whilst I could enable the option without the relevant window ECU the fuction did not and could not work.

V6Exec is right - you are unlikely to find any features you can enable on a 1999 car, (Maybe the irritating warning if you exceed a set speed, but that's about all).

From late 2000, you could probably enable cruise control, but not with your car, unfortunately.

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

Hi Doggy,

I hope that I can enable the trip computer readings (for example), because I can select between miles/km already on my trip computer...
So, maybe with the right wiper stalk (the one that has the trip computer button) and some luck with the wiring
being there already (hopefully), I will be able to activate it ...

Let's see...

Not sure on this, but I think you may only need the stalk.

I believe some of the others have done this already, definitley on D8 petrols and mybe on early HDi's too? (Can anyone confirm, please)?

You could wire up a simple switch first to test it.

PP2000 is very good - best give it a try and read the car - do not change anything on the car until you know what you are doing
