Autoglym do a (typically expensive) Tar Remover which is a spot treatment (not to be spread over wide areas) which works well.
You could try a dab of (typically expensive) petrol on a rag for the Tar spots maybe?
Tree sap normally melts away if you wash the car with warm soapy water.
Clay Barring and polish + wax is the only way to tidy up paintwork really.

You could try the turps, I don't think it'll do any damage. Or petrol, but you shouldn't get any on your hands as it's meant to give you cancer. Or see what your other half uses for getting the oven clean, try it on the paint where it can't be seen first...

The Tank's not that big on the Volvo, smaller than the 406, something like 55 ltrs? I've never filled mine to the top to be honestlozz wrote: Gawd knows what they Hold .. if there owt like the old tank versions.. itd take a Months wage

Most on the Forum struggle to get 45 ltrs in. When the Orange light comes on there's still 2 gallons sloshing around in there

Thats good to know ,iwas expecting them to have big tanks,

Re: Road tar./tree sapp.
Another vote for the Autoglym stuff. It's expensive but the tar just comes straight off, very little effort required and one bottle lasts a long time.

Re: Road tar./tree sapp.
I had sap in places on my old Citroen and helfrauds polish sorted that no problem, you could try some upvc cleaner on a rag for the tar... i have a feeling you'll be seeing bare metal if you use to much though.

Believe it or not baby wipes can get most stubborn marks off just about anything, particularly good on dried on bird sh*t.
If you're just wanting to tidy it up before getting rid I'd give baby wipes a go.
I always keep a pack in the car for kids fingers and stubborn stains, they're not too bad for cleaning oil off your fingers either after road side repairs/wheel changes.

Great tip that - we have a pack of baby wipes in our cars, use it for cleaning up almost anything.
Re: Road tar./tree sapp.
Prefer to keep baby oil in mine tbh, baby wipes are also handy.
