That doesn't sound too bad, you could consider doing it yourself. You'd normally changer the idler and tensioner as well.
Personally I'd do the aux belt, idler and tensioner at the same time after my aux belt tensioner decided holding onto the belt wasn't something it felt like doing any longer

Just priced up cam belt kit, water pump and auxiliary belt for mine from Euro car parts at £125.
That was the middle of the road choices on price and obviously your engine may be different so it's only a ball park figure.
Around £150 labour is probably par but get the spanners out yourself if you've the space, tools and the confidence.
If not it won't hurt to ring around, maybe offer to supply the parts and they might be more inclined to make the labour price sound more reasonable.

The aux belt failing can take the cambelt with it on the XUDs. Since you're going to have to take the aux belt off to do the timing belt, you might as well whack a new one on plus the tensioner, they're not too expensive as pattern parts IIRC.
I only got away with it because the engine was idling at the time

The best thing is to replace as many things as you can, cambelt, and everything thaat goes with it,aux belt, etc.
Dont know where you stand with oils but it would be a good idea to replace that also.

yeah thats on the to do list i have acctually learnt to do the service my self

Re: just been quoted 300 quid for a new cambelt to be fitted
£80 for a cam belt change will be just the belt and nothing else.
Considering how many different parts can cause a cam belt failure of a new or old belt it's a bit of a waste of time just doing the belt and leaving all the rest alone.
To do the job properly you'll want 2 new belts and associated tensioners and idlers, water pump and you might as well flush and change the coolant as you lose most of it doing the pump change anyway so price in the antifreeze.
I'm quite lucky that a mate of mine is a mechanic, he never actually gets his hands dirty on my car but he does lot's of laughing and pointing at me making those 10 minute jobs last all afternoon. He does however make sure I do things properly when he's finished taking the p*ss
