Hi all, I'm new to this forum so i hope I've got this in the right place?....Right, I've just got a '51 plated 406 HDi (90) Rapier Estate, it's the 1st diesel car I have owned (fuel costs etc).
A friend of mine that works for Cummins said to blank off the EGR system, he has pointed me to a link on fleebay for the blanking plate and i have bought one, it should get here sometime next week. What i want to know is: what are the pros and cons (if any?) of fitting it? I have already done a service on the car (oil/air filter, new oil, new fuel filter and have done the EGR spray cleaner bit) and it now runs MUCH better than when i got it last week. The final bit is this EGR thingy...Thanks in advance all.

Provided the valve isn't stuck open, you can disable it by pulling off and bunging the vacuum supply.
This is a good post: soot in engine.
I found mine much better behaved when it's cold, and improved the throttle response.
So far fuel economy is down on short runs, but it's come cold and I'm enjoying the throttle response, so this is to be expected. I feel that on long runs it's become easier to hit 70MPG

Thanks for that, i can honestly say i would rather trade off a few MPG on short runs to sharpen the response. Anybody else on here that can shed some light on your exp of blanking the EGR off? I can relate to rwb's experience regarding when the engine is cold. Although I can't say I noticed any improvement in miles per gallon or throttle response when the engine heats up.diablonoir71 wrote:Anyone?...

as its a 51 plate you may also have an air doser what i did to mine was to cut it out to get rid of it, you will need to take the cap of the bottom and put sum thing in there to stop the re manes of the shaft falling out.
all the air doser does it make the engine pull more egr gasses in to the engine.
