You can't really have HID's for the full-beam as they suffer a warm-up to full colour temperature I don't think they'd be much use.

I always thought the 406 had fantastic standard headlights especially if you fit Osram Nightbreakers or Philips X-treme vision's.

The headlight has a large reflector design so would be quite annoying to other road users with HID's in there (even if they have 'shielded' bulbs).

Here's where you nod, or just ignore me:

There's loads of arguments on these sort of Forums about whether they're legal or not, I believe they leave you wide-open to your insurers washing their hands of you in a claim (when you need them the most). Some folk also say they've 'sailed though' 3 MOT's with them but that depends on the bloke's opinion on the day.

Fact is you've shoved a bulb into a reflector which weren't designed to be together, a compromise is reached and the light pattern produced is 'ok' other mistakes people make is ordering HID's with a colour temp of more than 6000K - anything over 5000K is starting to be Blue in colour and this reduces illumination of the road by about the same amount as your attraction to the Police grows. Finally, increasing the foreground lighting produced with a reflector design makes your pupils close down, reducing vision. That's why HID's are fitted to projector lenses .

I totally agree with Welly as i always thought the headlights on my Saloon were excellent once i uprated the bulbs, my Coupe on the other hand was like having candles fitted so i installed a 55w HID kit from CarModShop, very good kit which i've had fitted for nearly a year now. If you do go with HIDs they sell two different types, H7 and H7R... now for some cut and paste....

H7 - Normal H7 bulbs with a metal base designed for PROJECTOR style headlights (this is when you look into the headlight the bulb is hidden behind a magnifer)
H7R - Blackout sticker on the bulb to reduce glare for NON-PROJECTOR style headlights (this is when you can see the bulb when looking into the headlight)

For once, I agree with welly too.

There's no 100% leagal way of retro fitting HID's, but at least ones fitted with projectors are not a danger to other road users.
