Floods! Grrr....
Today, half of my Bristolian-suburb town was flooded. I was really bricking it when driving over some of them but it didn't seem to be too high and other cars were managing OK.
I am thinking of raising the air intake pipe up...somewhere. Where? I don't want to just remove it completely as it would just be sucking in sooty engine air and I'd like to move the pipe itself. Maybe a flexible hose and attach it somewhere?
Also, what's the best way of driving over floods? Some people race through it causing a lot of splash but dispersing water and others, like me, idle through them....

Re: Floods! Grrr....
I reckon you're doing it right, I reckon if you drive through like a nutter you've more chance of pushing water up under the wing where the inlet is and if the engine is racing it won't just stall out of it starts sucking water in.
Can't help you with the other, I'm a bit limited here but I'd be interested in anything you can conjure up

Yeah,
iagree with steve,
drive slowly through water,
idrive down the edge of curbs if the flooded road is on a clear stretch,

Me too. Tickover speed in 1st gear usually, keeping the passenger side in the shallows, where possible.

I had to drive through a flood this morning, it was annoying as I was sending an important text at the time.

Now my sunroof is leaking. The drain tube on the driver's side is blocked as I put a bit of water over the drain hole in the sun roof and it didn't go anywhere.

I also go in 1st gear, like a dead person driving and if i can i drive at the end of road, right to the edge if i can climb on grass just to keep the air intake as much as i can up.
Just 23 days ago it was raining and i had a flashback of all the things said here

Re: Floods! Grrr....
I saw a van teararsing through some flood water earlier only to pull up 50yards down road, smoke billowing out the zorst, and as it was on a hill, I guess the power dropped.
Think they were lucky and just took in a bit of water or something, and not enough to hydrolock. I passed and went in a garage 3 mile down road, and when I came out, they were passing again, so obviously managed to get lucky and clear it, but at next roundabout, yep, straight through next big puddle - some people never learn

It's been chucking it down all day here but just before i just went to the school it was torrential and i crapped myself at every puddle (and they wern't just puddles more like rivers)
The heaters and engine did seem to drop a few times i'm not sure if something got wet but it got home fine so am hoping nothing got in.

Re: Floods! Grrr....
I just take it easy in first gear so the revs are high to keeping the exhust clear and make sure I'm not following anyone else through in case they mess up and stop, if you stop its game over...
