rear electric widow
hi all,
looking for a bit of advice with a problem i have.
my 406 hdi non fap 90 bhp on a 51 plate developed a problem with the drivers rear window, it went down and then wouldnt come up. on investigation i found no power on the front switch in either direction but power in the down position on the rear switch, i changed the whole switch assembly on the drivers door , result same
changed the switch on the rear door , result same
changed the rear window regulator , result same
cleaned the plug socket on the door piller , result same
reset bsi , result same
been through all fuses and found nothing
only way i can get window up is by putting power across regulator terminals and powering it to the closed position.
engine only done 140000 so plenty life yet in my old girl so would dearly love some advice please as i'm the sort of chap who likes the switches to work.
completely lost on this, sorted all the other niggely bits that have popped up in the past but this one seems to have me beat !!

Iwouid be looking at the wiring in the door loom, look for broken or chaffed wires,

Don't have an answer, but I'll be watching with interest, since my nsr window refused to open on Sunday and hasn't decided to work again since.
As far as we can tell, only 2.2 HDi's were cursed with the FAP, (but I have an app for that).

I am like Doggy here,dont have an answer,but my front driver window is going down smoothly but not up.
Going up is in steps,i must keep pressing button in order to close it.
Its a common thing on pugs this window issue

Hello there
Right, after an hour or so squinting at the diagrams (not sure if the car is semi or full mux but both diagrams seem to be almost identical and there is no mention of this on the parts diagrams)
All the feeds for the rear windows inside the switch seem to be common, so, as you've already eliminated the switch itself, if there's no positive or earth (negative) on one then there shouldn't be on any of the others. At rest both switches in the driver's switch panel are earthed, pressing a switch there provides a positive to one side of the rear switch, which at rest just feeds the supplies on to the motor, so one side will now be positive while the other is still earthed = the motor moves. There is a single positive supplied to both rear switches via a relay on the passenger compartment fuse panel (which is controlled by the inhibitor switch on the driver's switch panel). Pressing the window switch provides a live to one of the motor feed wires, as the other is still earthed by the driver's switch the motor will move.
Wiring for the rear switch (I'm not really sure how the plug is actually wired so you'll have to squint at the markings on the wires):
1A M610 eth for LED
1B 6111 to motor (up when positive)
2B 6101 common live from relay (controlled by inhibitor switch)
3B 6122 eth/pos (down) from driver's switch (goes to 6172 on driver's switch on full mux cars)
4A 6112 eth/pos (up) from driver's switch (goes to 6162 ditto)
4B 6121 to motor (down when positive)
Thinking about it, if the window will only go down it must be getting the earth from the driver's switch on pin 4A and positive from the relay but as it's not doing anything at any other time then there must be nothing at all on pin 3B. I reckon there's a break in wire 6122/6172 between the driver's switch and pin 3B on the affected door's switch. Don't assume the connectors are ok either.
Also, on full mux cars, there is a connector in between the two switches (hence the change in wire numbers) located... oh, where the wiring goes into the door.
Incidentally Doggy, the wire numbers are the same for either rear door

Hold the button in the up position at the top for 2 secs, and it should reset it, and allow it to go up in one operation.Ares wrote:Welcome to the forum mate.

FWIW I checked my rear windows from the switches on the doors - o.s. works, n.s. doesn't and no sound of it trying to.....

Haynes reckons it pops out from the top with a small screwdriver. Not tried it myself tho...
Yours should have the connector in the door shut between the b post and the door. Well, I say door shut but the diagram just shows it *somewhere* around there, outside the door but it could be in the post

Still cant find the prob. Has the front drivers regulator got any control over rear windows?

Eh? If you mean does it cut the power off to the others when it's in use like a VW then no.
