Thanks Steve.

I think the pump runs for somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds before it stops.
The last time I had the car running I put my ear by the pump and it seemed to be pumping ok.

I will see if I can see any numbers on the wires.
I was thinking about swapping the fuel rail pressure sensor as my local breakers yard has one in I think, he might swop it for the pressure regulator I got as it was different to the one on mine.

Yeah, it's filling and pumping ok. I have just took the pump out the tank and it all seems good with no grunge in the gauze filter under it.

I thought it was about time the Pug had a service as I'd kind of lost track  I know it wasn't due on mileage 'cos I've not been driving it much but well overdue on time. With this thread in mind I thought I'd better have a squint inside the filter housing - Loads of the stuff! Mika the mechanic, who was saving me the bother of getting my hands dirty ( :supafrisk: (, gave it a very good clean out with rags and air line, he also cleaned as much as he could inside the lid, but I was kicking myself for not just bringing the spare one I got from ebay along.

Just by the by, that's a Mahle filter housing, while the one in the first post is obviously a Bosch. My mate Goran ordered up the parts and all 3 of his parts catalogues say my car has a Bosch filter housing and that the only 406 HDis with Mahles have Siemens injection. I sent him this yesterday:

DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL AND BVA (automatic) AND MOUNTING BOSCH AND BOSCH DIESEL FILTER UNTIL RPO 09337 (09/2001) OR DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER AND BVA AND MOUNTING BOSCH AND BOSCH DIESEL FILTER UNTIL RPO 09337 (06/2002)
DW12TED4 TURBO DIESEL AND BOSCH DIESEL FILTER UNTIL RPO 09001 (07/2001)
DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL AND BVM AND MOUNTING BOSCH AND BOSCH DIESEL FILTER UNTIL RPO 09001 OR TURBO DIESEL DW10TD AND MOUNTING BOSCH AND BOSCH DIESEL FILTER UNTIL RPO 09001 (07/2001)

MAHLE FILTER DW10 (ATED & TD) TURBO DIESEL AND MOUNTING BOSCH SINCE RPO 08975 (06/2001)
MAHLE FILTER DW10 TURBO DIESEL AND SIEMENS ASSEMBLY SINCE RPO 09065 (09/2001)
DW12TED4 TURBO DIESEL AND MAHLE FUEL FILTER SINCE RPO 09002 (07/2001)

(note the overlaps)

Here are some pics I just scummed off ebay:

Like isaid steve ive seen a few with the Metal filings, and theres been no problems,

the fuel going in goes through the filter so id say the Hp pump carnt get any of the filings that what im thinking anyway
but imight be wrong,

do the metal filings actualy come from the car or are they something you get free with the fuel from the petrol station,
ive noticed some of the pumps make a wearing noise on some of my fill ups :frown:
