gremlins again
Hi guys another mystery .My clock ,battery light ,were staying on when i took my key out of the ignition . My heated rear window wouldnt work and the tailgate wouldnt open with the key . For some reason I thought I will disconnect the battery then reconnect and hey presto everything is ok ,does everything reset itself when the battery is disconnected then reconnected or have I got a problem elsewhere thanks in advance .....Rob

Hi robb,i once disconected the battery and everything reset, even clock but i dont think that will solve your problem.

It's P reg according to your first post (not so subtle hint) which makes it, er, 1975/6, oops no the other end, er, 1996/7 so it's an early D8 with no BSI to worry about. It does sound like a serious wiring fault though

Jep,your entire system seems to have some issues.,windows not working properly than fans kick in,sounds a bit more serious.
Would diagnose solve something?did you tried it?
Problem could be anywhere in the electric system, maybe wire or something.
Im in dark here, the best option for you to take it to some mechanic so he can check wires etc.

Re: gremlins again
I'm sure we've had someone with the fans going constantly before so I had a search and this one looked possible viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17620&p=173615&hili ... nt#p173615 (the rear wiper could be something to do with this too.)
Also, they do that when the sensor's disconnected, Windows could be they just need resetting

Passenger compartment - F12 10A Ign. + ve Oil breather re-heat resistor, reversing lamps, A/C engine coolant temperature unit (Bitron?)
Engine compartment - F12 10A + after relay 2665 Left front foglamp
The Bitron is what controls the fans for engine cooling and air con. This could be your problem...

Re: gremlins again
Update
had to get auto electrician out, after 5 mins he found the problem where the wires enter the tailgate there is a rubber tube inside are some of the wires .The heated rear window wire had lost some of the insulation and the heater wire had welded itself to the rest of the wires causing brake lights, rear wiper and number plate lights not to work also the radiator fans were on constantly
he ended up putting pieces in soldering and shrink tubing them remedying all the problems
