That can't be right Neil, must have started it hundreds of times last week! Or do you mean 3 times in quick succession? Last time I got rid of it the other day it was on the 2nd start :?

It's definately missing James, the few times it's done it at tickover I have kicked the throttle to stop it from cutting out, but I'm pretty sure she only misses one or two beats anyway, so may not have cut out if left alone. Only once it did that. When cruising you can just feel it missing, but the power's back almost before you notice so again it can only be one or two beats.

Took Neil for a spin the other day so he's felt it. Anything to add Mr Davies?

I didn't do the tickover cut-out with me in the car, but the missing is less than I thought I would be, and it seemed to clear up temporarily after a quick thrashing.

i know the problem :P

the bloody egr is a fully electric one with its own flow meter

in that pic, just below the thing i highlighted, attached to the block, is the egr, looks a bit like a thermostat housing?

there should be a 5 pin plug attached, disconnect it and get your multimeter out:

on the egr valve plug (not the loom) on pins 3 and 4 you should have a resistance of 3.5 ohms give or take 0.4 ohms

on pins 1 and 6 you should have a resistance of 2.5K ohms give or take 40% depending on the engine coolant temperature

me and my dad have both decided its the actuall egr unit is whats at fault
and you should be able to change this yourself, but the i doubt the egr is cheap

after reading a bit more about the HPi, you need to re-initialize the engine ecu once you have replaced the egr, do as follows:

turn on ignition, wait 20 seconds
start the engine and leave at idle untill cooling fan cuts in (with a/c off)
test drive the vehicle at low load, going through all the gears accelerating and decelrating (between 1500rpm and 3500rpm)
turn off ignition
wait one minute before restarting
a cumulative functioning time of at least 20 minutes is necessary to enable the injector learning process
the re-initialisation is complete
:P

Is this it James? This thing's on the front of the block, but it's got a 5 pin plug.

Can't see anything on the side or the back (unless it's the siemens thing??)...

Nah, but I rang the dealer and got a price for the EGR, £140 + Vodka, I reckon that's a bit much to have a punt myself and decided to book it in instead. Hey, it's only money, when I run out of it the bastards won't be able to take it off me anymore :? So it's going in tomorrow, I'm braced for impact  .

How much labour do you reckon to change the EGR James, seems pretty straightforward, shouldn't be more than an hour should it? Plus the bloody diagnostic charge of course
