If it's an automatic then it doesn't have a flywheel as such, but it does have a ring gear around the plate the torque converter is bolted to and I'm referring to the teeth on this. What I'm thinking is that if some of the teeth are damaged they might be good enough for the sensor to get a strong enough signal at idle but it might start missing some as the engine revs increase.

Have you checked the Metal plate, that bolts between the engine and the gearbox, the S/plate,

if the gearbox as been removed is it possible thats been bent alittle and is interfering with the signal of the crank sensor?
not sure if the 406s are inline with that but ive seen it happen with a few other cars in the past,

use a Mirror and a torch to eye ball that area,

Perhaps you trapped a fuel line and there is only enough fuel to idle? Can your mechanic test the fuel pressure while the engine is running?
testing the fuel pressure.........read 3 bar.!!

So this is the pressure from the lift pump or the HP pump? If it's from the lift then it's certainly enough pressure, but then why does the fuel dribble out of the injector line? If it's the HP pump then it's a dead dog :?

sorry I didn't knew exactly how...
but I think that's standard procedure for testing fuel pressure.

update:

try to drop the gearbox (again)

can someone analyze what's wrong with this ring gear?
no missing teeth

just some bent, which I give white arrow.
just hit with hammer to turn it back to it's shape......can I?

Ah, so that's how it's done. I can't imagine that would cause any problems but I see no reason why you can't carefully straighten it.
