Sorry not 406 related,

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Sorry not 406 related,

Post by lozz »

Anyone know how to Disable the air/con on a 306?

The system is empty , so its usless anyway,
but it always comes on with the ignition, Anoying low pitched noise sounds like Wasp's from heater blower,
tried pulling fuses but no luck there,

is there anyway of getting rid of the auto/aircon totaly, ?

Thanks inadvance,

I always thought when the system was empty the aircon didn't operate although the light on the dash is on.

Thanks for the Reply,

thats what ithought too,but for some reason, asoon as the ignition is on,
the heater settings go to Auto and somethings Cutting in, its abit noisey like a low speed fan whirring away, :?

ive disconected the plug to the Air con compressor just incase that fires up, (theres nothing in the aircon pipes totaly empty )
also when you turn the ignition off around 10secounds later you can hear - 4 or 5 loud clicks under the bonnet (fuse box area)

I know it's a different year but my old R reg 306 had aircon and when that was empty the compressor didn't cut in at all even though the dash light was on,when i had it regassed it came in and out and the condensor fan also ran but when it leaked out again it all stopped. Not sure what your noise is though, does it still make it when you turn the a/c off ?

Take the interior light out and unplug the sensor behind the little vent, brown or orange plug IIRC, that's what I did on mine to sort the bloody annoying buzzing!!

That sorted both my '98 v6 (was a 1.9DT) and '01 HDI, the air con light would still come on but the fan would stop when I turned the dial off, maybe try unplugging the rest of the temp sensors, one in the fan housing and one near the matrix I think.

I can only assume it's a 'sample' pipe returning air from the cabin back to the fan where it checks the temperature and adjusts the fan speed to suit. Yours has been fitted with a non-air con type fan motor?

Still doesn't really explain the whirring noise though does it?

Cheers,

yeah it looks like its the wrong motor, theres no where for the pipe to fit,
at first ithought itd been Snapped off,

Got the aircon to stop trying to fire up now, it only uluminates when the heater blower is set for screen demist,
the fan is staying on constant on very slow speed,

Might try a new heater resistor, as far as ican see there Double coiled, so might be one of the elements have gone,

carnt get the glove box out to get propper access, someones pop riveted everything in, :(

On my 406 the fan always runs at a low speed i think even when switched to the off position.
