its only worth about half an hours labour, but the wankers will charge you an hour at least i bet, and most likely still change the wrong part, you need to take into account that the dealer will not read the P codes you have got, they will only download the pug specific fault codes which can throw them the complete wrong way

In all fairness the bloke I spoke to this afternoon seemed very good. He said that they were able to make the valve itself operate normally under test, and that it's the flow sensor part of the EGR that's given up. But as you said James, it's a fully integrated unit, so that's £140 + diagnostic + half an hour for fitting + the dreaded VAT = £270 summat

There you go, what's an EGR flow sensor on it's own usually cost? £25? I'm going to have to spend a bit of time polishing this car now so that I can learn to like it again.... :?

Hope the buggers wash it for that price!!!

they are supposed to wash it every time you take it too them if you spend money, i would demand that they wash it if it isnt, you could just buy the part and fit it yourself Dai, its not that hard, you cant normally buy an egr flow sensor, as with fully electrical egr valves its all internal, with older systems its measured by the air flow meter which would have been a hell of a lot more expensive

yeah, as far as im aware all dealers are supposed to wash the car, except the express fit ones or if they dont have time, i.e. customer wants the car straight away

I did think about it, but now I already owe them the Diagnostic charge and I'd have to pay the cost of the EGR, so really we're only looking at half an hour labour, may as well let them do it and have it guarenteed.

I certainly had at least one car back from Griffin Mill without it being washed once, Can't remember whether is was mine in for a recall (no spend) or the wife's when she had to pay tp have a 6 month check up (£25 for a rubber stamp in the book - they made her pay 'cos her car's an import :frown: ), may have been both! I know when we had to shell out £375 for the BSi on the wife's car a few months ago it came back gleaming 8) !

Welton, what are you like?

Right she's back.... £272.65! But I did enjoy the drive home 8)

The report says "On diag fault listed with EGR valve position fault. Actuate valve position sensor internal to valve not measuring valve position. New EGR required. Secure and fit new EGR valve. Clear all fault codes, road check, recheck diag, OK."

Still never mind eh? that's the first thing that's gone wrong with it in 5 years, not a bad record :cheesy:

I likes my car 8)

Sounds like it's all sorted Dai.

Funny isn't it. We feel good about ourselves, and the car, after paying a big bill for a repair which worked well.

It's probably the only time we get to spend cash on our cars without too much grief off 'her indoors'.

That's about the only car maintenance my missus understands.......the kind where your car breaks, it goes to a garage, you pays your money, and you gets the car back working again :|

BUT if you want to buy some 16'' wheels, or a chrome trim, well, you know.

I wish women would just let you spend the family budget on car stuff instead of just pointing out the things we don't want to hear like neglecting the family, wasting money, and having more important things to spend it on.

Oh well.
