Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Electric Mirrors - D9 Executive

Post by exec406 »

Just noticed the power has gone from the passenger side electric mirror, which is also preventing the folding electric mirrors from operating. Drivers electric mirror operating OK.

I don't use the passenger electric mirror that often so don't know why it has failed, bloke at the local garage said it's not worth getting this fixed and that it is the mirror electric motor that has probably gone. He also said it's the one power connector that powers both the driver and passenger mirror.

Anyone had this problem? Costly to repair?

My guess would also be the motor itself, but it's pretty easy to remove the mirror and check for power at the (20-way maybe?) white plug.

If you need to replace the mirror you could get one from a scrappy for not much and use the coloured back cover from your existing one.

I'd certainly try fixing it but then I'm quite picky about everything working.

The folding motor is separate to the two that move the mirror around and I can't imagine them all 3 going at the same time :? Check the connector? Is the heater element also dead?

Just looking on SEDRE, also on that connector are the heater, position memory and the external temperature sensor. The connector for the whole door at the a-post also has stuff like the window motor and the speaker, so I don't reckon it'd be that one.

Oh sorry, I missed this bit in the first post. Definitely check the white connector then, and cross fingers that the fault is on the mirror side otherwise you'll have to get the door card and acoustic material out :supafrisk:

Thanks for the replies.

This fault appeared soon after I had a drivers side central locking actuator fitted (first time I tried to use this mirror after that I think) At first I thought it was a connector at the mirror / window control console on the door, that operates the mirrors, that may have came loose when this actuator was being fitted, but was told it's the one connector there for both mirrors. With one mirror operating OK that would rule that out.

Will check out the connector at the passenger side mirror.

Cheers.
