Mobile phones advice.......

Post by Welly »

Does anyone know much about Mobiles?

I have currently got a Nokia N70 and it's very slow at navigating through the various menu's and gets itself in a right state!

The battery life is also shyte, much much worse than my old trusty Ericsson T610 which I only charged once a week if that.

I can upgrade the phone and can have anything I want because we spend over £200.00 each month on contract.

What's a good 'allrounder' phone to have with 'picters' and video but won't bog itself down?

SE K800i... 3.2 megapixel camera, video, battery lasts me 3 days of use, video calling, internet, java, I even use it as my satnav! best phone I've ever had, and it's the first phone I can honestly say that if I broke it or lost it, or when I upgrade, I'd replace it with another identical model.

I've also just had a K800i, fantastic phone. If anything to criticise, it's a little bulky, but then they all are these days. Although, I'd be interested to know how to set it up as a sat nav unit Davva??

My wife's had the Samsung D600 and now the D900. She's been really happy with her phone, but I defintely prefer the Sony Ericssons, they seem a bit more professional and the camera's are definitely better.

I'll have my 12 month old K750i up for sale soon if your interested. Or even the wife's D600.

I've always preferred Nokias. The best thing about 'em is they're easy to borrow a charger for :)

I always try to get hold of potential phones first and see how responsive the UI is. Staying with the same brand means the learning curve is very gentle

Depends on how you use a mobile, iv got Nokia N73, great battery (4 - 5 days normal use), 3.2mp auto focus camera, satnav with aditional gps reciever(29.99ish).

Takes great pics and video, on a par with sony e 800i, personly prefere Nokias.
Good web browsing, e mail, messengers, even come on here.

If you want demo pics or video e mailing just drop us your e mail.

N73 still symbian operating system but alot faster than N70, its just a little plain looking.

And wow what a phone bill i pay 14 a month for 10 hours any talktime with 2000 texts, 50 video mins and 50 mms and downloads worth 5.00 a month

here's the info I posted on the K800 forum...
Hi all,

Following a few discussions in the satnav thread I decided to buy a GPS reciever from mobilefun for £32.45p inc P&P http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8590.htm and to install nav4all on my K800i.

Installing the software was a doddle - use the phone browser to go to http://www.nav4all.com/install and download then run the java programme. I then had to download and install a language pack and a voice pack but this was easily done. Having a play around with the programme using the Navigate from A to B option in the menu looked very promising, and you can run through a demo of the navigation instructions.

Received the GPS reciever this morning, turned it on, paired it to the phone through the usual bluetooth pairing route, fired up nav4all, allowed it to make a bluetooth connection, and it connected to the GPS reciever. Everything works exactly as it should. Told it to navigate me to my office, plugged my headphones into the phone, lobbed the GPS reciever into a jacket pocket and jumped on the scooter. It works perfectly, I can't see the screen while scooting but the voice instructions are crystal clear and perfectly timed, positional accuracy is fantastic!

All in all I'm dead chuffed, I've got a fully working satnav solution that I can carry around with me anywhere I go - bike, car or on foot - for £32.45p!!!

To anyone who's undecided about this - just buy one, lob nav4all on your phone, you honestly can't get better for the price.

That forum is very much a "visit once a week if I can be arsed" forum, and yes I can do polite and civilised if I have to... but I'd much rather be in here, which is my internet equivalent of a skanky whorehouse where I can bury myself up to the nuts in something that resembles a bucket of raw liver while eating kebabs and drinking gallons of white lightning, and fart a lot.

LOL - I was using one of those until around 6 months ago when I broke my T610. It was the only spare fone we had in the house and I didnt have any cash for a new fone as i had just bought the 406....got plenty of funny looks when I used to send messages or make calls on it when out at parties etc!

Bloody unbreakable - we used to play rugby on the beach with mine!!!

Got a Motorola V3i now - its pretty good...camera is shite compared to whats new on the market and the battery life isnt anything special. Pretty cheap though and it looks the goods!

Couple of friends have the K800i - awesome fone with a very very awesome camera! :)
