Well i started off on my usual weekend 250 mile round trip to Derbyshire and 15 miles in and the infamous ding from the MFD and "battery charge level low" and the battery light up on dash,i pull over and the aux belt is still on so i turn round and head for home to transfer me and the dog to the van.It was like a scene from apollo 13 what can i turn off to save battery power----off went the heater and as it wasn't quite dark turned down to sidelights,after about 10 miles all is well still going strong and thinking how well these heated seats work,doh!!!!!!!!! idiot!,anyway long story short got home and did a quick charge check on the battery 11.2V and no charge going in.Do 406 hdi's have a clutch pulley on the alternator? When i revved it hard and on the overrun there was a strange noise coming from the alternator area,not a bearing noise more like a "whizzing" noise?

Could be worn of failed brushes.

I'd try get the altenator off yourself and get it refubished! Shouldn't cost you much!

Bit of a daft question but what amp alternator do you reckon is fitted to my car,as i'm away from the car for the weekend i can't check,i'm trawling the net for prices/replacement but not sure what is fitted,is there more than one type fitted to a 2003/53 2.0 hdi 110 executive?,i would assume with all the electric bits and bobs on the car it would be 150amp?

Cheers for that,it looks like there are 2 types,mitsubishi and valeo.I'll have to wait till i get home to get the vin by the looks of it then.

I just tried my vin for a filter but it still brought loads up, you'll have to look at the alternator for any numbers (safest bet anyway...)

For what its worth, when any of mine play up, I whip the alternator off and take it to my local repair man who fixes it for about £40.

Well i'm back home now and just popped the bonnet and it's fitted with a Valeo alternator and according to service box it's 150 amp,so time to trawl the net for one.

Does anyone know what other pugs/citroens the hdi Valeo 150 amp alternators might be fitted to?
