COMM2K / MONOCHROME DISPLAY

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Hi & welcome,

(Please take caps lock off. All-caps text is often interpreted as shouting.)

Hard questions! At least insomuch as there's no straightforward answer...

For a COM2000 your best bet is to get one off a scrapper, or from eBay.
There's also this guy on eBay who offers to repair although I've not used this service, so I can't vouch for it. (Ade the coupe breaker reckons his son knows how to repair them, but I didn't get full details.)

The faded patch on the display occurs when it gets hot, and unfortunately that's just how it is :(
(The displays in the 407 have cooling fans which fail and then cause such fading.)

The vertical lines of missing pixels are caused by failed connections between the display ribbon cable and the board. If you're feeling very brave then you can re-flow the connection. This astonishing article over on the coupe club (you need to create a (free) account in order to read their forum) shows that the 406 sat nav display vertical line problem can be fixed by reflowing.

If you're very lucky, however, then you may find a sat nav display on eBay for £20.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.
