box instruments problem changing lighting

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

No estoy seguro de que se trata. Voy a preguntar en el foro Ingles y despues, si alguien lo sabe te lo digo.

Right guys, given Google's attempt at a translation is complete ballcocks I've asked the guy to write in Spanish. My wife speaks Spanish but it's a bit hard to understand as she doesn't know how to speak car, however it looks like this guy was changing his dashboard illumination about and slipped with the test probe. He's fixed the fuse but what's happening now is he's not got any illumination on his mileage display unless he turns the lights on, and the display on his MFD is on all the time, even with the key out. The car's a 1998 according to his profile. He's already asked on the Spanish 406 forum but they couldn't help him, so now he's getting desperate. Anyone got any ideas?

It's a while since I drove my D8 but I think the mileage display dims out when the lights go on, so there must be a direct feed to the bulbs when they're not on which he's fubarred. Also, the MFD staying on sounds mightily familiar :frown:

I will get my wife to translate this when she has time.

When the lights are off the panel lights (el cuadro de luces?) are brighter, when the lights are on there is another supply with a lower voltage but I am not sure how this is done. I suspect it is in the panel itself but I am not sure as I have no diagrams for your car. Could you try another panel?
