Hi I wonder if there is anyone in North Kent who could do a diagnostic test on my 1999 2.0Hdi D8 please as Ive lost power below 3000rpm. It does drive seems to pull away from stand still normally until I want the normal acceleration when the boost normally from 1800 ish is not there but then accelerates when I reach 3000rpm obviously I would come to you and pay.

Re: diagnostic test?
Just from the description of your symptoms I would put money on your MAF sensor being the culprit of the problem. I would try disconnecting it and taking it for a spin. If the car's power considerably improves then you know what you have to change. Disconnecting it should not throw up the 'check engine' light
Re: diagnostic test?
Thanks a million keppler, spot on.
Next question is the MAF sensor repairable/cleanable or is it dead?
If it is its breakers yard, as Stealer quoted £91+VAT
Thanks again, Keith

Re: diagnostic test?
I have heard of people cleaning them and getting good results but their few and far between tbh. Cleaning will only work if its dirt thats causing the problem. Its more likely that the element itself is reaching the end of its lifespan. You can give it a clean using any type of electrical contact cleaner or carb cleaner if you want and see if it helps but dont use anything that would leave any kind of residue.
When my maf gave up I replaced it with a chepo aftermarket off of ebay. I think it cost around £35 delivered and its been doing fine for the last 12000miles or so. Dont go to a scrap yard as its a part thats well known for giving hassle on the 406 and you could very well end up with one thats nearly about to croak.
