Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406HDI 2.0 110BHP-Fuel pump access cover-Removal??

Post by pugface406lx »

Hi everyone.....
Someone please help with this simple job....i need to get to the fuel pump under the rear seat on my 406 2.0HDI Estate (110bhp)...but I cannot see how to get the black plastic circular access cover off the body...it doesnt want to lift off easily and I have been trying to get a screwdriver under it to lever it but Im scared of damaging it! Mine is simply a flat round disc with a slot in it ...(presumably to be able to rotate it I'm thinking to a keypoint like a jamjar lid in order to remove the cover) but i simply dont know and the Haynes manual is useless...it shows the petrol model which has a grab-handle affair on it!!

Please help anyone??

I'm afraid the consensus appears to be: no.

I recently had a no start situation, with no time to fix it I got my local garage to tow it in and fix it.
It was blowing fuses in the fuel circuit, they thought it could be a problem with the lift pump in the tank and tried to get the unit out of the tank. The hole in the floor doesn't quite align with the unit in the tank, they had to cut the floor to get the unit out and attach an aluminium plate to blank it off afterwards. Dropping the tank is a nightmare.
It wasn't the tank unit, it was a relay, the tank leaked when full afterwards so it had to go back to fix that and now the fuel gauge and trip computer have gone completely bonkers - why do I use this garage?????????? At least when I get round to fixing, what seems be a problem with the sender unit, I'll be able to get to it
