Car keeps locking itself !
Hi .... before i take my car to overpriced garage can anyone point me in the right directio i what to look for as my car keeps locking itself. its a 2001 406 2.2 hdi... i locked keys in it today...lucky i had spare set. seems to be random when it happens....doing my head in...

Could be a duff switch in a door,could be a duff switch in the plip, could be the ecu's gone mad. Does it lock itself when the plip is away from the car?

it locks when its in the ignition......or when away from car... when it locks when i am i car i have to take plip out to open it. i cant just open door fromiside. argh!

My Wife's old 206 had a random locking / unlocking problem that was accompanied by other symptoms such as wipers failing, that was the BSI so proved costly. I did hear of another 206 that used to do the self lock / unlock trick but didn't have any other problems, never found out the solution to that one because they sold the car, but I'd have bet that there was water getting into the electrics somewhere...

If it doesn't open from the inside then it's operating the deadlocks, I've never had them so I'm not really sure how they work

does it do it when you drive off and hit about 10 mph, or when you stop the engine, and it deadlocks you inside? <- trick here is open the door before turning off the ignition as it tries to lock it and the fact the door is open unlocks it again.
mine went though a patch of doing that after i charged the battery with it still on the car. I was just about to BSI reset it to try and fix it when it failed to start and i had to jump it. fixed it magically so I would suggest checking the battery or battery connections, failing that try the BSI reset hokey pokey (search for this on the forum how tos)
