How to get a "spares-car" aboard a ferry

Post by atleg »

Hi

I'm about to buy a 406 for spares. Its without MOT or TAX, standing approx 100miles from Newcastle.
How do i get it aboard the ferry legally?

Is it possible to buy export-plates and drive all the way?
Or should i arrange for it to be brought to Newcastle and drive it through customs and aboard the ferry without TAX and MOT?
Or do you have a better idea?

Thanks

Probably the best way in terms of legal matters is to trailer it away.

I know that technically a car with no TAX or MOT should not be on British roads. But I'm not sure if the police will show a blind eye because your in transit to another country. Certainly, if you register that car to yourself before hand, you can slap norwegian plates on it and the police can only wag their finger at you.

The police have new powers to seize vehicles on the road without insurance, tax etc...

Stick it on a trailer, whether you are British or not, the police can still stick you on for it, (and probably will).

I know I would, because I pay my tax and insurance etc...!

Pris. :cheesy:

Ah but as Blue said, if the *car* is not British registered by the time he comes to shift it... then it'll be tax an MOT exempt, and I doubt any copper would seize it on its way "home" out of the country unless it's in dire condition I guess

I'm not planning on registering the car in Norway, so Norwegian plates is out of the question.
I've tried to find out if you have "testday-plates" in Britain (we have such in Norway, just pay up about £25 and get some stickers that is valid as plates for one day), but you dont have these in Britain?
Car import from Germany is very common in Norway, and the solution in Germany is to buy EU-export-plates. But you dont have these either?
