National Tyres Oil Change!

Mondeo is due an oil change (acording to me, 3,000 miles is long enough since the last one ).

Oil for my car is £27 and a filter is another £9. So £36 all in.

National Tyres oil change using Castrol Magnatec 5W30 fully synthetic oil ... £43!

Not worth getting dirty.

The only problem i have with some of these service centres is that some just suck the oil out via the dipstick hole and surely that must leave some of the old oil still in the sump.

It actually says that if the under tray is complex to remove then they may charge £5 to remove it.

They'd have no problem with mine it lives in the shed ... If you can see the work getting done go for it i wouldn't mind doing the same in 4000 miles but i bet the price will go a lot higher by then.

It's normal price!
They are just pretty damm cheap!

Guy in work told me about them as he got it done by them. He got it done cheaper than he could have bought the oil for himself!

Just been on there website and got a instant quote of £28.80. Not serviced mine for 2.5 years Do you think they'll stamp the service book for an oil change

3000 miles?

You can go 12000 miles or a year between oil changes with no issues, I absolutely guarantee it.

406s can go 18000 miles between changes*. Says so right there in the manual, although I bet most people get it changed yearly (I know I do). So a Mondeo should be able to do 12000 miles no problem, unless you're doing track days in it.

* To be fair, at the rate mine's burning oil, I'm probably replacing it 2-3 times a year just by topping up ;-)

Had my oil analysed at 12k and it was full of crap and long past its best!

I'm skeptical of these long service intervals, all manufacturers are worried about it getting it out of the warranty period!

3k? Seems a bit obsessive. I aim for 6k, but now the EGR is disabled I'll be leaving it a bit longer.

I would not worry about sucking oil through the dipstick. We use these at work all the time and they leave a dry sump. Having done one the other day then I discovered that the sump drain was leaking, I had to remove the drain anyway to be greeted by a dry sump. No system is perfect. If you drain it the old way, are you sure that they would leave it long enough for it all to drain?

I usually aim for 6k oil changes.
Over the winter with the snow and the cold I've spent quite a lot of time idling etc or at high revs engine braking when it's a bit slippery.
So I think it deserves a 3k change

My garage uses the sump-sucker thing I saw it in action. In Japan they have oil 'vending machines' at the road side using the exact same principle.

Removing the drain plug leaves 'pools' of old oil hanging around.

I still miss my old 406's undertray, I hope it's safe and well (got ripped off in a snow drift and I didn't notice, I abandoned it in effect ).

Must say I was impressed!

Turned up and they got it on the ramp straight away.
Drained the oil for about 20 mins, new partco oil filter and they came out with two fully sealed 4L castrol magnatec bottles to fill it up!
