Advice on 206 vs 306: For my parents

Post by Sonia406 »

Well further to Dad's serious car accident in 206 vs HGV they are looking for another Peugeot. (I must say I am proud they want to come back into the Pug Club!)

Mum loved her 1.6 HDi 206.
Dad I think is looking to replace it with another 206 (at least he's safety checked them! ) but Mum is worried that it may be a trigger for Dad, being such a very serious crash and all.
Whilst I have tried my best to convince them into getting a nice 406 saloon, I think Mum would prefer something still nippy and she definitely loved driving her 206.

My question to you is: If you had a choice out of a 206 and the 306 which would YOU go for and why?

Also, if there are any KNOWN common faults with either?

The dent man that did y 406 said that 206s are one of the worst cars to try to get dents out of. But they were one of Peugeot's best selling models, so there has to be something in it.

306s can eat ball joints, but I only owned one for 3 months, so that's as far ass my knowledge goes with them.

Whichever way they go, I would say a 2.0 HDi 90 would be the best bet. Both come in DTurbo flavour which is quite a nice sporty spec too.

The only major thing with the 306s is the rear beam,
if you see any of the rear wheels slanted walk away,

thats the 1st thing icheck on them, anyway,

interior wise there abit old skool but everythings plain and simple, no fancy electrical critters to go wrong,

306 all the way I have owned 2 of them. Parents have had theres for 5yrs no problems what so ever... You can get a late 206 with the 1.4 hdi & 1.6 hdi.

Dont forget the 207. I think they are great!!!!.

Mrs Rappy has a citroen C4 coupe vtr+ that has a 1.6 hdi non dpf and has been ultra reliable in the 7yrs she has had it.

I agree - the older xsara is built on a 306 floorpan & handles beautifully, flies in HDi 90 guise, (had an estate for 4 years / 100k, it was near faultless).
The 'new' shape is a 307 in disguise, not so sharp handling, but the 110 will be massively quick and frugal
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks for all your advice, just found out today that a friend of mine has got her first car today.......... a Peugeot 306  Not sure on engine size or fuel yet.... need to catch up with her :D

I shall pass all this on to mum and dad to let them make the decision... I have a feeling they may not want to tempt fate in getting a car Mum won't get along in so will just go for another 206 ........ fingers crossed they get a nice 306 :D

i bought a 306 hdi of a friend as they needed to get rid as the family was expanding, they replaced it with a 407.The 306 had given them 6 years trouble free motoring and the 407 has been a mare.I sold the 306 to a mate and it's still giving trouble free motoring,my sister had a 206 diesel, nothing but trouble from day one,306 all the way in my view. :)

The only thing idont like about my 306 is,
its hard as nails, after 50 miles or so it plays havoc on the olde spine, and yet it as top of the range seats,

comfort Nil,
but it has its good points, its good for the twisty lanes with its stiff supension set up, :supafrisk:

Good grief.........
Well I must admit I found the seats in the 205 the best ever...... Could easily do hours of driving and be comfortable... Not sure I'd feel the same int he 406 though......

Wow  I don't think much to the 07 series in fairness - I tell you what, if many more of my friends get Peugeot's just because of what I tell them about Peugeot, I am going to have to invest in shares
