Engine Mount replacement.

Post by Peter86 »

I have had a squeaking noise coming from, what sounds like my glove box on my 406 for quite some time. On furthe investigation this weekend, i have diagnosed it as the engine mount (passenger side) When i rock the engine it squeaks like a good un!

Anyone got any exploded part type drawings detailing this mount? (instructions on how to change this) just didnt want to tackle it blind, looks straight forward.

Car is 406 estate, 2.2 HDI executive, 2001

Any help appreciated.

Pete, do you mean the one that attaches to the gearbox?

The gearbox one is easy. Just hold it up from the bottom of the car with a jack and replace.

No its the passenger side one. You can see it when you open the bonnet. Is it hard to change? any drawings about?

On passenger side (if you're in UK) it will be under the gearbox - very easy to change. Remove the air box, hold the gearbox with a jack underneath and replace.

Pretty sure the mount is above the gear box on passenger side. I have attatched a pic of where the squeaking is coming from :)

I did that one on my 2.0 last night.
I didn't bother to remove the airbox or battery tray, just about enough room to do it with everything in situ.
You might need a long extension.

awsome.

Piglet you got part number/link of the correct mount? going to order mine today, and want to be clear what it looks like without taking it off. Sounds like a pretty basic job.

There's at least three different types of gearbox mount, depending on the engine.

Bit off subject but worth documenting:
I spent a bit of time modifying a top 'dog bone' mount by progressively filling in the air spaces with some casting rubber.
What I found was the harder the mount the better it is to drive but the worse the vibration at tickover.

Not surprising really.
