No offense taken, but before you cast aspersions on male cleaning abilities did you get a chance to see the pics of my old red 406? It used to take me nearly a full day to do it all.

I should also inform you that it's me that does the cleaning in our house (yes, even though I often work a 10hr shift). :P

Aww, you're a few days too late. Been off work since last the 19th, but I'm back Sunday at 4am.

So would I at the moment as I'd offer to buy the f**ker back. Bet it's probably passed that magic 100k mark now though. Was on 93k when I sold it last April.

You can start tomorrow with that
It should only take you a day, and if I think 12 hours into the deep clean you're not pulling your weight I shall crack the whip and make sure it's done in time for you to start work on Sunday
What year was it? Why did you sell it?

It was a 2000/X. Only had 79k on the clock when I bought it in January 2010, but 2 years of commuting, days out with Jack & a trip to Disneyland Paris pushed it up to 93k when I sold it.

Was a combination of things that made me sell it. Kind of lost the rag a bit when every MOT cost me £300. The 530d coupled with the wife telling me that we didn't need 7 seats anymore as we wouldn't be getting Irish visitors on a regular basis & if we did they could make their own way out & about meant that the 406 got sold.

Should've realised that wasn't going to happen really...

regarding the roof rails...

The reason 307 silver roof rails fade is because they are a single coat matt silver finish with no laquer.

If the roof bars were prepped correctly, sprayed and laqured there is no reason it would fade.

I toyed with paining mine matt black but was afraid I'd have to sand it back and paint it every 12 months because it would fade.

Personally I would go for a dark grey or gloss black.

Now, did anyone see Top Gear on 24/02/13 and think of me?
They bought a Fiat Multipla and converted for the older people in the Country... They took out the passenger air bag (OF ALL AIRBAGS!) and they first had to defuse the airbag... they showed two cables and didn't know which to cut... Those scenes were hilarious to watch!
Anyway, I have come to the conclusion that it does not matter which orange cable meets the pink and which orange cable meets the blue.
I admit that I still am not 100% sure on this but I have now very little choice on what to do. I have removed the drivers seat to look-see, and sure enough the brown box has a different number on. The orange cables look exactly the same as the other side, it has a P on but the rest is anyones guess
Drivers brown box number 5
Passengers brown box number 8

Drivers:

I know I know: puts a whole new perspective on 'back seat driver'
Image

Image

Under drivers seat before removal: famous insulation tape around the same connectors as the other side
Image

I am tempted now I have taken the front seats out to recover the carpet in something else - but I must not dismantle my car any more........ at least I can get to all the bits the hoover couldn't reach with the seats in..
Image

Passenger side: Blue number 9 and brown number 9.
Image

Another question: How easy to fit heated seats? Whilst I have got them out ya know
Image

PASSENGER SIDE: orange cables that head to the brown, seat belt pretensioners connector, number 8.

Another side note:
Anyone know what size the bloody ABS bolt head is? I either couldn't get good traction or haven't anything that fits .......... Not sure which

Thanks in advance.................

I see your replacing your front seats to the ones fitted in that very episode of top gear, good choice they're very comfy you know.....don't forget the rear fog light switch and 20mph speedo and the dead cat cage is a must.

Stay away from the... (and this is the technical term) Self destruct at the first hint of entering a dual carriageway on the wrong slip road... Function i believe it's a work in progress.

Cheeky begger, that was the best part
Problem is I have already strayed from their design, I am going to have a button that when pushed, deploys a big f*ck off arm and punches the car in front out of my way  To be used on ALL Renaults  (and all other slow cars or annoying drivers)
Will detect if the car in front is a Peugeot, in which case it polishes it's rear end of the car in front

I can see my design will be so popular I have started taking orders already :D

Are you having the same front bumper? at first i thought it was ply wood but i almost pissed myself when he parked it... With a bit of polish he could have buffed the whole passenger side of the parked car.

That was funny, but in fairness it was the air bag scene that set me off  The sweat dripping from his face - that's going to be when reconnecting the battery and turning the ignition, I swear!

As a quick update before I update the blog:

Cleaned her out - well, I've made a good start.
Decided I wanted to turn the ignition to check the status of BOTH warning lights ''AIRBAG' flashing and ''abs fault'' that was visible via the central console plus, the EML which had been on the last couple of times the engine was turned.

I re-connected the drivers seat, all connections back in place with the seat.
Passenger airbag cables all clear from each other, live connection away from everything lol.
I turned the passenger air bag OFF via central console when first started this job: for added security.
I reconnected the battery negative terminal.
Then I lost all the balls I had previous to this.
I tried calling a friend to egg me on.
Then I ''whatsappd'' who gave me some of the courage I needed, plus I needed a wee so had to get on with it as had loads to pack away

I turned it on to the warning lights and backed away, the wipers came on and I didn't actually hear the ignition ticking, perhaps too ''lost in the moment'' to really care about such minute ticking when an air bag (or two) may have been just about to write me off
After a few seconds had passed, I turned the engine over.
Backed away again ''just in case'' but everything was going well.... UNTIL.... lol - there is no until. I just wanted to build suspense

Anyway, AIRBAG light still flashing at me, so I presume the seat belt pretens on the passenger side was perhaps not the cause of this after all.
ABS FAULT failed to appear and the EML also made a disappearing act :D

I must add, ALL I have done with regards the ABS is take the caliper off and spray AROUND the sensor, I did want to take out the sensor retaining bolt and clean up the mating faces of the abs sensor but as luck would have it, I couldn't get something that fitted in the darn thing yesterday.

SHOULD I continue to take out the ABS sensor, or just run the engine long enough, and perhaps rev next time in case it comes back on or ''while I am there'' just replace the stupid thing?
I guess, the last thing I want is to put caliper back on, wheel back on, off axle stands and then for it to say 'Ha! Just teasing ABS FAULT' comes back up

I am quite relieved the EML has disappeared, though disheartened the airbag light is still flashing its sexy ass off at me.

With regards the airbags, how does one remove the metal plate in the original connector boxes? IF at all possible I want to restore the use of this clip now..... I know I know, typical woman keep changing her bloody mind, it's my prerogative 'n all that polarva

I should really add pictures of the clean up and light progress:

Couple of before and after pictures here:

Timed that picture well, as the AIRBAG light had just flashed off lol

Tidy (Bar the mascaraed electrics)
Image

Executive decision based on my scribblings: 2 orange wires are just that.
[P.s if anyone here knows why, according to Mr Haynes the passengers pretensioners are 2 orange leading to 650 leading to box 6, since the actual number on the connector says 8?]
Image

BLACK BAG full of rubbish from the car, carrier bag has protective gloves, glasses other cleaning materials, red crisps box full of any other tools, my mate WD40, wire brush, brake cleaner etc. Brown box full of things that like to SCREW  Includes, 3/8 drive wrench, 1/2 drive torque wrench, (some smaller wrenches I care not to mention: oh just did), newly donated 3/8 drive sockets and a case full of the 1/2 drive sockets. Other screw drivers, the red straw for the WD40 in the mug...

Discovered two missing covers on the clean up: (I will be replacing these)
Image

Came missing from the car, LX badges on nearside. Found the L from the drivers seat once removed: again I will be replacing these.

Car a long way from finished: want to refit rear offside caliper to move car forward and improve access to clean and work upon. Perhaps should of done that prior to working on her but where she is now, she's tucked away from the road of the estate and I don't like being watched, especially as a few doors up there is a professional mechanic that works locally and he has always a smug look on his face - the kind of look that would get him a thick ear if he ever came up with some stereo typical bollocks to imply I was not or am not up to the job. :supafrisk:

They aren't missing - they were never there in the first place. The only way to cover them would be to fit the split rear seat.

Surely it'd be cheaper (& easier) to just peel off the sticky sh*te & leave it badgeless on the wings? That's what I did, although by the time I got to that point it was already far from an LX anyway.
