BSI info

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Thanks nutski.... Have removed the small metal retaining clip and lifted the bsi above the front lugs and it still won't budge.
Haven't found the metal bracket you're referring to but not in any hurry as I haven't sourced a bsi yet.
Virgin eeprom and eeprom programmer ordered.
Here in France BSI's vary from approx Euros 100 upwards and the UK looks a better bet if I can find someone reliable.
It is a labelled Siemens D9 - B4.

Thanks Alane. Have sourced one with exact label as mine. Have looked at a few now and don't see many where labelling is the same.
Anyone tell me what is the significance if any? If it's marked Siemens D9 B4 surely there can't be much?

"The best laid plans of mice and men!"
Please read from my original posting to get the general gist...
Opening the new bsi cover was not easy with all it's very stiff plastic lugs but using seven old-fashioned strong hat pins to hold the lugs clear I got the cover off and to my disappointment discovered the eeprom was not interchangeable ie it was a later version smc (surface mounted component) and virtually unsolder-able at least for this very shaky 73 yr old.
Ah well it was worth a try!
Changed over to the new bsi and to my astonishment all the dial figures returned the same as the original until I noticed in the left hand corner the dreaded key symbol which indicates the engine is immobilised. Tried a soft-boot but still the same.
I really would caution anyone thinking that changing a bsi will solve their problems unless they have access to Lexia and pp2000.
The 406 is probably the most comfortable set of wheels I've driven with a superb diesel engine but when it comes to electronic electrics it's a "pile de merde!"
I've by-passed the blower control motor unit and the next step is an air-con by-pass of some sort to have some cabin comfort.
C'est la vie.
