My spanner set hasn't been updated for years. The last new one was a 13mm Halfords Professional combination
spanner, open one end, ring the other. And that was 10 years ago.
So where I've been is...
Several duplicated and triplicated spanners, none of 1 or 2 very small ones, and one with a broken ring.
Some of not particularly trustworthy quality. I kind of get by.....
However, I've read lots of things about ratchet spanners. The majority opinion seems to be that once you have them,
you invariably reach for them as the first choice spanner.
My birthday is coming up soon, so I thought I'd set myself up a for a little treat. I know they say, somewhere, that money is best
spent on experiences..., however, this time, I decided to investigate how much I would need to spend to obtain a decent quality value-for-money
ratechet spanner set. Minimum 6 pieces.
I checked out the AutoExpress review. And noticed that the Silverline spanners rated highly.

So I checked out the eBay lot for cheapest price.
Right now its....

I had also noticed from reading different forums.., several mentioned that Halfords sometimes did a special offer
on their 12 piece Professional range set. Someone mentioned that the offer seemed to come up abut every six months.
So I checked out Hafords right now...

I decided to go for the Halfords, drove the 6 miles, back home now.
Well chuffed. Meaning to do something about my spanners for ages. I just did.
Just to add. The couple of Halfords spanners I already had, I've always been happy with, they look and feel like quality. Not sure
who makes them.., but have read in a couple of places that the Halfords Professional stuff is made for them by Mac Tools.

Re: Spanner Sets
The halfords ratcheting spanners are a good set, my cousin uses his all the time and has never had a problem, i bought a set of bergen ratchet spanners a few years back for £40 but am kicking myself when i see the halfords ones for the same money now, its not that the bergen ones are bad, its just the halfords ones have the good guarentee on them.
Good luck with the spanners, they save a lot of time. And Happy birthday.

Re: Spanner Sets
I recently bought the flexible ratchet spanner set from halfords, the trade price isn't much more than retail of the set you bought (around £47 iirc), most of my tools are halfords professional/advanced professional, they don't do an 18mm long reach socket though!
Re: Spanner Sets
i've got hallfords socket sets and the ratchet spanners and love them for racing and doing repairs!
ive not used my halfords trade card on tools but shall look into it there is a few more bits i always need!
