Wiper stalk

Is there such thing as a D8 steering column wiper stalk for cars with rain sensors, with rear wiper control AND a trip computer button?

I got the guy at the stealer to have a look for me, but he couldn't see one

Spent 3 hours this morning trying to figure out what that button must do, to no avail

If anyone's got a detached stalk with a t/c button and a multimeter to hand, I'd be grateful if you could poke at it...

it puts an earth down to the top 15 pin plug of the trip computer, not sure what pin though

Haynes says pin 5 (which comes out at 12v). Blown fuse says 'nope'

well, when i fitted my computer, i took out the sport suspension blank, next to the heated rear window switch, changed it for another heated rear window switch, but took the cover off the blank, and swapped it for the one on the new heated rear window switch, took an earth off the hazard switch and ran it through the modified heated rear window switch, so it looks like a blank, but you push it and it changes the function of the trip computer

ooh good idea! I just had a microswitch elegantly *cough* blu-tacked to the top of the steering column ;)

What 'mode' do you have the comp set to? (the little dial on the side)

1: Temperature in top-right, with proper "degrees c" symbol
2: Temperature in top-left in chunky letters, zero and below comes out as "LC", some sort of trip counter to the top-right and a picture of a car and a post to the bottom right
3: as 1
4: blank

I'm guessing '2' is the biz...

ive got an aftermarket cd player so mine is set to 2, but if you have the standard pug unit you have to use 1

Do you know what the difference is between 1 and 3 or what 4 is supposed to do?

3 is just a temp display, no computer, and 4 turns all functions off

Ah so 3 has no radio display?

I've been out and fixed it today. My heat shrink covering the solder connections got pierced by another connection which is why it was blowing fuses and also why the comp stayed backlit. Oops

But now I have the microswitch blu-tacked to the top of the steering column and it works a charm

Think I'll definitely rip your idea of getting a spare heated rear windscreen button though - blu-tack does look a bit, uhm, tacky if you'll excuse the pun

So now I have average speed and a 2nd trip counter. Cool. Need to replace the computer though because half the segments in the LCD are dead. Bah. Luckily the PCB is in 2 halves so I don't have to re-do the solder job...

Had a look for the ECU wire under the bonnet too, but didn't have much luck. Peeled back the wiring tube about 9 inches but just couldn't see a single number on any of the wires - just rows of dots, and I still have no idea how I'm going to get the new wire through the bulkhead. Fancy giving me a hand one weekend in exchange for a pint or something if you're not too far away?

Can you remember how you worked out which wire to use? Or were yours numbered somewhere sensible unlike mine?

my wires were numbered

if you like at the the first thread about the trip computer, theres a turbo wirirng diagram and i think it shows you where that wire appears in the engine bay, theres a loom plug under the battery tray i think, its in that

ok, i have just looked over this wiring diagram and its no help, take the ecu out, unplug it, get a maginfying glass, the pins are numbered on the inside of the ecu plug, find the right pin, pin 32, take the back of the ecu plug off and you should then be able to easily find wire 1368 in pin 32, follow the wire back from the plug till its near the drivers side top suspension housing, then strip back the insulation and solder the wire on
