parvo virus

Post by scotty73 »

Talking of dogs in another thread got me wondering if this needed a thread of it's own... Couldn't decide so here it is.

any of you with dogs out there know that it's recommended that by 12 weeks a pup should have had two vaccinations and then every year they get a booster, now not everyone does this and not everyone can afford it which is the first thing that sprung to mind when talking to my mate last night.

His 8 month old female Chihuahua cross went a bit downhill Monday night and by Tuesday evening she died from what the vet explained was a very strong strain of Parvovirus... strangely she had been vaccinated against this but there was nothing the vet could do.

Now this is not me condemning the vaccinations i'll no doubt pay to get mine done in October again but a heads up to keep an eye on your dogs....She also leaves behind a little brother who i hear today doesn't know what to do with himself. :(

Strangely enough, not being a dog person I'd never heard of Parvo until a couple of weeks ago. One of my colleagues has just bought a puppy who'd already had Parvo pre-installed  . Paid £350 for the pup which then spent 3 nights at the vet and cost a bloody fortune in vets bills, worse still 'cos she'd literally just picked him up she hadn't had time to get him insured yet. Needless to say she's taking legal action against the breeder. Still at least Sonny the little ball of fluff seems to have made a full recovery :)

I said to my mate that i thought parvo was just a myth these days because i hadn't heard of it in years, neither had he.

These days they just pop out vaccination for every damn thing.
Have my dog for 6 years now, never had any illnes or anything, but i see mates do some vacc,on their dogs and these dogs constantly sick.
I dont trust at all and im against most of the vaccination, its just for the money.

Its like with people, the more you get vaccinated the more you are ill.
But this is subject for another topic maybe :)

The last time I've seen dogs get parvo was around 20 year ago
My gran s dog. King Charles spaniel had a litter of pups,
She. Took a stray cat in. And it wiped the full litter out

I've not heard of many dogs suffer with it since

Sorry to hear about the loss of the dog tho. :(

I was wondering when doing the thread if cats get it too or are they carriers?

ok it seems they have a strain of their own.
Feline parvo virus is known as panleukopenia, but is sometimes called feline parvo because the symptoms are similar to the symptoms of canine parvo virus.

Cats are hard as nails. But they can carry stuff that's lethal
To dogs and humans,

Dogs carry stuff that are lethal to humans,

Its pretty much. 50/50. Which ever way you look at it :?

If you need any info mate. I can link you to a forum I'm on
Its greyhound related. But its full knowledge there's even the odd vet or two

Years ago a setter i had got parvo,as i'd seen it before i got him to the vets within hours of the first symptoms and they managed to save him but it was touch and go,he went on to live to a ripe old age.

Your spot on mate,
Idont trust vets,

After they wanted to remove my dogs tail. Iost faith in them
Most vets work. Off a what's best for the money. Principle

And not what's best for the dog
Id sooner find someone who's clued up on horses look at my dogs than the local vets

I agree with you Lozz.
We have a vet here, she is very good,im happy we found her,you can tell straight away she loves animals, and we are going to stick with her.
She even told us that this vaccination is filled with all kind of things.

My brothers cat, which died not long ago,was at the some vet,he just gave some 2 shots of vaccine and thats it.
Few hours later,cat died.

So,speaking about vaccination,im totally against it,human or animal.

HERE HERE - human or animal, I am against it too........ if the full statistics were published on both I am sure a lot of people wouldn't vaccinate.
