Run lock kit

I always wanted to add run lock to the car so i could leave it defrosting without the worry of some fecker driving off in it, i seen this kit on ebay:

It was very easy to install, the only difficulty with the multiplex 406 is the handbrake switch, it doesnt connect to earth which is needed on this kit, so i had to add a second handbrake switch. There is still one lying in the attic, i made a plate to hold it, and used some jd weld to hold it in place:

The second handbrake switch is connected to ground and when the handbrake is put down the switch is depressed and this disconnects the circuit from ground.





There is still some wiring to tidy up but it works, turn the car on, activate the run lock remove the key and get out, even lock the door (Remote locking doesnt work with the engine running) but if you try to drive off and put the handbrake down the car cuts out straight away, and there is no way to start it without the key.

I was thinking of getting a remote start one
But that seems abetter setup

I suspect the immobilizer only stops the engine from starting, once it's actually running it doesn't do owt.

I was going to say "unless whoever's nicking the car knows how good 406 handbrakes are" but then I realised with the key out the steering lock will also come on.

The immobilizer is only needed to start the car, when the car cuts out after the handbrake is put down and the key is out the car will say anti theft system defective, but with the handbrake applied and the car running without the key it works fine.

Yep i worried about the 406's handbrake but mine is working fine at the moment, it needs to be put down to let the car roll forward, your right about the steering lock it would also stop them.

During my time working as a emergency vehicle fitter at Vauxhall several years ago,we used to fit similar kits to all police patrol vehicles.They all basically work in the same principal the only difference being that we also used to connect them to the footbrake switch so if either the footbrake was pressed or the handbrake released it cuts the engine out.You can make them yourself with 3-4 5 pin relays a couple of diodes and the wiring.
You are right what you say about the immobiliser the transponder is only read in the key as its started as is the principal in all cars today, so the only way you could get a remote start kit to work would be to permanently mount the chip out of the key near the steering lock (where the loop pickup for the transponder immobiliser is fitted).

Crackpotterpig yep its only a relay and some wires with a fancy switch, i suppose i could put another switch at the clutch pedal, and wire it in series so if either it or the handbrake is touched the car will turn off

It would be best asking what didn't happen to it
I have an AIR BAG light flash at me... I understood my fault was passenger side and then cut off a connection (with the intention of rewiring new connectors in) only now I am shitting bricks, now that's an understatement right there
I think it's on Mis Pug's photo thread..... I can't get those connection boxes anywhere and to add insult to injury, as well as buying a soldering iron, electric coloured cable, wire strippers, spade connectors (insulated) and crimping tools.... the fault is actually on the drivers side...

Ah i see just read the blog.

I mind the first time i removed the plugs under my seat, it was confusing i ended up wiring them both the wrong way round, luckily this showed up on a pp2000.

Well... How did you do that? Did you replace the connections too?
If you look at Haynes manual about wiring, it says '2or' for 2 orange, so I presume it doesn't matter which orange the blue meets and which orange the pink one meets...... Worst that can happen is the air bag goes off and blows the fascia to smithereens... I am out of my depth here and that poor cow out there knows it, Fair play I have ONLY done the passenger seat belt pre-tens but I have no idea how to tackle the problem with the drivers side air bag electrics......... any helpful hints?

I cant remember the colours now, but all i did was snip out the connectors and solder the wires together, although the first time i did it i went for a cup of tea came back and forgot the colours
Ive done it on clios though with no problems, just cut and solder one pair of wires at a time with the battery out.

Taking the battery out and waiting for a while is the best safety precaution, at the time i wasnt very careful still doing it with the battery in, god knows how it didnt explode.
