by the looks of the elbow and the sh*t that was in it shes redey for a de-coke, to block the egr valve take one drinks can cut a big piece out of the side place over the smaller hole and mark out the shape and where the holes need to be then cut out, make holes and fit
as for the de-coke i would take the easy way out and rig up a water meth injecton system and take it for a long run and hi engine speed on a hot day

Thanks mate, that's a job for me tomorrow. Might have to open some beer for the parts I need to block it off!!!
Do I need to block both sides of it off??
On the egr, does the diaphragm work on vacuum? As now that mine is fixed back in, the diaphragm seems fully pushed up into the head of egr? I have tried sucking on the tube going to the solenoid and there is no lift in it....but if I blow then it moves down slightly??
Would the egr being open cause the car not to get to 3000rpm or am I looking at a bigger problem
You will have to explain the water meth system to me a bit better if you don't mind please madmadmax??
I might end up turning my car into a nitro racer

Re: 406 2.0HDI STILL A NON RUNNER
yes the erg is vac controlled so it should be sucked open and pushed shut, if your boost problem is low boost presser then it could be jammed open letting all the boost out and exhaust gasses in
you only need to block one side off
hears a good site if found for a better explanation i could ever give http://www.turbomirage.com/water.html as for the price i have forgotten how pricey it is to do, if you have the time to do a manual de-coke its much cheaper to do just takes a long time

Fookinhell mate that's sounds confusing, my eyes were going funny just reading the paragraph!!!
Have you ever done it yourself?? Will try blanking egr off in the morning and see if it makes any difference?
Tax is up the end of the month so I gotta decide whether to throw in the towel before I cough up for new tax?
My other motor is exempt from tax.......it's a 2012 top of the range wheelbarrow

chuck the egr valve away!! just blank off the egr valve where its mounted on the exhaust manifold with a piece of metal with 2 stud holes drilled in it with some exhaust paste to seal it take off the other end at the inlet manifold as well and blank that off with a piece of metal the same as on the exhaust manifold.
Don't forget to blank the vacumn pipe on the bulkhead valve if not this will bring on the eml.The egr valve when in place and working correctly opens and closes the vacumn controlled plunger opens the valve and allows some of the exhaust gas to be re burnt via the inlet manifold.Problem with them is because they are exposed to high temperatures and over time soot deposits etc on nearly every car with them fitted they play up in one way or another sticking open or partially open.Leads to power loss rough running and engine management light issues.

Re: 406 2.0HDI STILL A NON RUNNER
i have never done the meth injection as the pump is £100 but that the most expensive bit, i know how i would do it i would put the spray in the intake elbow with a strait shot in to the manifold and have it at the highest presser setting to give the finest spray possible
the effect we are looking for with the water meth injection is that of a steam cleaner but on the internals

Re: 406 2.0HDI STILL A NON RUNNER
Thought i would do what madmadmax suggested to see if it was the egr causing my problems.
Well guys, its made one hell of a difference!!!!!!
Anyone know where i can source proper blanking plates as surely the bit of tin will melt with the extreme heat???
so with your method crackpotterpig, can i just remove that whole section of pipe with the egr attached to it? I have just
blanked the egr side for now and left the vacuum pipe attached to the solenoid.....No eml yet but only done about 10 miles.
Next job on is the crankpulley as its rattling like mad!!!!!
Just ordered one of ebay for £35 inc delivery so think its best to leave the car parked up until it gets here, dont want all of our hard work to be for nothing
if the pulley breaks up an snaps the cam belt!!!!

That looks like probably the best blanking plate in the world!

Well guys I got round to the cank pulley and all was not good!
Sourced a cheap aftermarket one but when I put it in place an reconnected everything back up the belt is flapping about all over the place?
Tensioned it up as much as it will go an still no good. Thought maybe the old belt was a bit stretched, even though it looked pretty new so I went an bought a shiny new one....problem solved.....NOT
Put the old pulley back on just to compare as I didn't check how that was running before I took it off, that is fine with no jumping about??
Could it just a duff pulley or are the aftermarket ones just not up to scratch??
Cured the noise though
